Class History In the fall of 1952, we Seniors entered the doors of Lincoln High School as Freshmen with an eager attitude to make the best of our four years. We, through our Student Council representatives: Mary Beatty,Tom Connell, Paul Marks, and Rosa Lee Albrecht, helped guide the governmental system of the high school. We entered the doors as Sophomores in 1953. During our Sophomore year, we organ- ized ourselves and sold Autograph Hounds to make money for our treasury. Many of us in band went on a trip to Chicago; while many of us in choir took a trip to Ball State. The girls in our class helped organize the Junior Sunshine Society. Many of us were gaining singing experience when we sang in the choir highlight of the year, H.M.S. Pinafore. At the beginning of our Junior year, we elected our class officers: Louis Gurthet, Pres.; Paul Marks. Vice-Pres.; Christine Emigh, Sec.; and Stanley Bradley,Treas. Under the leadership of these very able officers, wc sold concessions at the games to raise money for the high-light of 1954-55, the Junior-Senior Prom, the theme of which was Deep Sea-Dreamland. Many of us Juniors were fortunate enough to be selected for Dramatics Club. The Club’s main project for the year of 1954-55 was the production of On the Night of Jan- uary 16th“, in which many of us held pans. Realizing that this was their final year, the members of the Class of '56 decided to make the most of it. The first thing on the agenda was the election of class officers. The officers were as follows: Dave Munger, Pres.; Paul Marks, Vice-Pres.; Stanley Bradley, Sec.; and Abbie Strong, Treas. Next came Homecoming! Our Queen, Christine Emigh, and her court, Abbie Strong and Joyce Lawrence, together with the students and the cheerleaders, led the team for- ward to victory. There was much celebrating at the dance afterwards when the Varsity squad found out that they were the Champions of the Central Indiana Conference. The Senior play, January Thaw , drew much approval from everyone who saw it. There was much excitement as the Scholarship Tests came and went in the Senior English Classes. Commencement exercises brought our Seniors face to face with reality. Thus the Seniors strode into the outside world to make their way. 10 Begin Their Final Year ROSA LEE ALBRECHT S.S.S. 3, recording sec. 4; G.A.A. 1. 2; Spring Festival 2, 3; Library Club 1; Mayflower literary staff 4; Student Council 1; Choir 4; Jr. S.S.S. 2. Class History The graduating class of '57 entered their first year of high school as freshmen in the fall of '53. During their freshmen and sophomore years, they began to take an active part in the extra-curricular activities offered by our school. Having become juniors, they were privileged to join many organizations which had been closed to them before. They sold concessions at the basketball games, sold candy at noon, and held a dance, in order to give the class of '56 an excellent prom. These things were done with the help of their capable officers--president, Larry Ritzenthaler; vice-president. Dick Botset; secretary, Lucy Howard; and treasurer, Jeanne Wolff. To advise them in these projects were their sponsors--Mrs. Phillips, Mr. Menser, Mrs. Pear- son, and Mr. Scherrer. As the juniors look forward to their last year, they are wished the best of luck in mak- ing their senior year as enjoyable as has been that of the class of '56. Only when the Gages were starved and nearly freezing did they become friendly to the Rockwoods. After that, the families saw the advantage of being friends and peace- fully living together. I. A. C. Championship The return of ten lettermen to the Rookie squad of the 1955-56 school year made the football season very successful for Plymouth High School. The boys started training two weeks before school started-and-what a profitable two weeks! As the War- saw Tigers were defeated with the score being 38-6, the Rockies started out the season with a spirit which never let down. Coach Thomas in- spired the team this year, as he has done every year, with the urge to win- not just for the sake of winning by brawn, but by brain-work. The squad used some very good plays despite the fact that the team was not exactly the heaviest team Plymouth has had. Rockies Win Title The Plymouth team set a brilliant record this year of eight wins and nc losses. In five of those games the opponents didn't make one point. The will to win was impressed up- on the whole team with such force that they, realizing the impact of wanting to win, became the C I.A.C. champions. The March To Glory J Succeeding the impressive open- ing of the season with a 38-6 victory at Warsaw, the Rockie squad defeated Monticello, a C.I.A.C. foe, 7-6. From this win the Rockies went forward blazing the way by overcoming Peru on Lincoln-field 13-0. Once again the team went forward to chalk up another victory by defeating Wabash 27-0. Win Over Huntington Clinches Title The Rockies won their most a- waited and most defensive game of the season-the final conference game They defeated Huntington on their own field with a score of 7-0. Since we had defeated Huntington last year by only one point, both the team and the students were expectant as to the out- come of this game. During the game the two teams, each cautiously await- ing the stealthy move of the other, played a very flagrant game. The most impressive play- The two-foot line -occurred in this game. We held Huntington on the two-foot line, and after successfully stopping their chances of making a touch-down, we pushed them back, still farther to the two-yard line and got the ball. After winning the first C.I.A.C. championship in quite a while, the team was lauded at a dance at Lincoln Gym following the game. The town was ablaze with the wonderful news as the Rockies felt humble, for they knew they had won only through the will to work, which Coach Thomas had embedded in them. Marks, Gross Receive Honors Paul Marks was chosen captain of the team by his fellow players. Se- lected by the team as the most val- uable player was Bob Gross. Ail Conference And State Honors Chosen as members of the All Con- ference team were John Alcock and Paul Marks. Honor of being named to an All State Tearn was given to Paul Marks. 68 Varsity Squad Left to right: Paul Marks, ChuckGordon, Glen Mitchell, Ronald Hackett, Phil Legge, Bill Nixon.
