HOMECOMING PARADE I-,xtali S5 BASKETBALL SUMMARY Although winning only six of their eighteen games, the Pilgrims proved them- selves capable of putting up a tough battle against any competitive organization. The Pilgrims got off to an unlucky start, 59-47, bowing out to the Warsaw cagers on the latter's floor. The first discouraging look at the Pil- grims was brightened as they next met Alexandcria to win with a score of 38-32. After hanging on stubbornly in the first half, the Pilgrims wilted to Mishawaka for a 40-29 final score. ln the next game conference foe Elwood emerged victorious, 49-41. Peru also proved their ability, winning by a score of 52-44. The Pilgrims then journeyed south to Muncie only to play a close game and then to lose 47-45. Next they met Tipton to hit the victory trail, 49-28. With the usual traditional rivalry, Ply- mouth went to Culver. After a tough game with the shooting averages leaning heavily toward Culver, the Pilgrims suc- cumbed 63-38. Once again on the victory trail, the Pil- PAGE 36 grims topped Monticello 48-46. The next two losses were to Rochester 43-44, and South Bend Riley 49-44. Then with re- newed efforts they were the victors over Bremen, 48-29. The annual Marshall County Basket- ball Tourney proved a non-spectacular event for the Pilgrims. Culver emerged as the victors of the tourney. Returning to regular games, the Pilgrims were overcome by lohn Adams, 52-44. On January 20 the Pilgrims with redou- bled efforts won over Winamzic, 66-48. Wabash then topped the Pilgrims 50-43. Gaining a 49-37 revenge on Rochester, the Pilgrims won. Each in turn, Warsaw 51-44, and Huntington, 56-53 topped the Pilgrims. The Sectional Tourney ended the 1949- 50 season for P. ll. S. with Bourbon out- playing other teams to be the Regional Cntfilllt. lim Wenino won the annual Sports- manship Trophy, Iack Beabout Rotary Clubs Trophy for the outstanding athlete of the year, and Meyers the Free Throw Medal, awarded by the high school. llRIf'SIlNllfN f'1':m1 Huw: CI Mitclwll. ll. PAGE 40 Early last fall a group of ambi- tious, hard-working boys gave up their jobs, along with their leisure hours, to prepare for the approach- ing football season in this 75th', year. Previously rated as the dark horse of the conference, the Ply- mouth Rockies rose to peak per- formances during this successful season to close as the C. I. C. champion team for the third time in the last five years. The Rockies conference record for this season was 5-O. A flamboyant team spirit was the key to the 1949 Rockieis suc- cess. This team was notdependent on any one individual, but con- sisted of eleven fellas working to- gether toward the same goal, the FOOTBALL SUMMARY C. I. C. title. The Rockies opened the season on their home field facing War- saw as their opponents. Warsaw kicked off to Plymouth to offici- ally open the season. The final score ended in a 7-7 tie, the first for P.H.S. in the past eight years. On the Monticello gridiron the Rockies won their second victory. The Rockies showed great prom- ise in trouncing this conference foe by a score of 38-0. The Rockies went forward to Alexanderia to chalk up another victory for their perfect record with a score of 39-O. Peru proved little competition for the Rockies. Q FOOTBALL SUMMARY CContinuedD breath-taking moments, Plymouth vvon, 48-6. The greatest conference test of the season was Wabash. Com- mendable blocking, tackling, long runs, returns, and general all around line playing was respon- sible for the 34-13 victory margin. The Rockies, while putting forth their best efforts, finally suc- cumbed to the Moosehart eleven for ,a Moosehart victory score of 20-13. Valparaiso gave the Rockies a rough time, but after four hotly contested quarters, the Rockies by a score of 13-7 emerged once again as the victors. The Homecoming game was played with the C. 1. C. title at stake. This fact spurred the coura- geous Plymouth team to a 13-6 victory over Huntington to win PAGE 48 the C. 1. C. championship title. Clarence Butch Harris, a 175 pound tackle, was elected captain of this championship team and lack Beabout received the Plymouth Chamber of Commerce award as being the most valuable football player of 1949. Constantly leading snappy cheers were yell-leaders Betty Snoke, Carol Emenaker, Beverly Ruff, Beverly Bollenbacher, and Nancy Miles. The excitement among the fans grew as the team piled up victory upon victory. The popular vote of the stu- dents elected Mary Crocker as Homecoming Queen with Rose- mary Iones and Donna Roush as attendants. Mary reigned over the gala event as the team won their final victory. llic Clirls' ,Xll1lL'tiL' .Xssnrizitinn umlvi' Ilic spnnsnrsliip nl' Miss Nlinnic Snmx is gin nrgnniyaitinn lim' tlic pronio tion ol' slznrls snuli als lmslxcllxill, vnllci' lxill. :incl tcnnis lm' alll girls wlin nun' want tn pzirticipzitc in tlicin ut mann ni' iilitur sclinol. ,Xinnng tlic niziny iictivitics wliicli tlwy si'nnsnrctl tliis ycgii' uns tlic plziyclang ii soft Imll ganna' with Xl'cst lligli lxtlicy lnsll, llllll ai lxislwtlxill gains nitli Xlbst Iliglm, ltlivi wni1U.fXi1ntlic1' nl' tlicii' nutstaimling cwnts is lllL'll' Smrcr Slirczitl wliicli is an initiation linr gill tlicir new incinlwrs. lin cairn innncy lor tlicii' Uligllllllilllllll tlicy snlcl ljlyinnu1li lliislxctlmlln pins. illicit Iwcsitluiit was llnsciiiairy lloncsg x'iccfpi'csiclL'11l. The predecessor of the 75th graduating class entered Plymouth High School in the fall of 1947. Perhaps the outstanding event of that year was the Freshman-Sophomore Party. Their sophomore year found them entering many more activities. This is evinced by the fact that many of them claimed high honors in the lield or art. music, and sports. As .luniors their main objective was to present a banquet and prom for the graduating class. Through the guidance ol' the following class ollieers-President, VVendel1 Goochg VicefPresident, Mary Lee VVilliamsg Secretary, Alice Abairg and Treasurer. Shirley Weedling-they co-operated in presenting a banquet and prom which will be retained as a happy remembrance in the minds oi' every india vidual who attended this marvelous event. Now as they look happily forward to the spring of 1951 with the anticipation of making their hnal year just as successful as the preceding three years, we, the Class of 1950 wish the best of prosperity for them in all the new endeavors which they shall undertalxel J U N I CJ R CLASS R 54 S if , 1 ',. .
