BRUCE SANTCDS Memories . . . is it not incredible that memories are all we have left of this member ot the Class ot '79 who gradu- ated all too soon. We all knew ot the tragedy, which did occur nearly two months before his seventeenth birthday, so l need not go into detail . . . and rather than mourn the loss of this truly remarkable person, let us instead turn back the hands of Father Time and admire the righteousness for which he stood. His attitude toward life itself was simply amazing. Few people had absorbed more of life's hard knocks and minor atflictions . . . and still come away laughing. His constant good humor was contagious, for he seemed so happy all of the time . . . which greatly helped to ease the pain of his passing. There were no false airs about him, for he was such a down-to-earth person. People were his pride and joy . . . and it was this quality, above all else, which made him so downright lovable to others. He must have had enemies - he was NotGod - but he certainly made you proud to say, 'I was his friend . . .' He approached everything he did with a head on, all out attitude, harboring few or no regrets . . . another quality which greatly eased the tremendous pain. In his name, l beg oi you not to forget the resolutions you made upon his death, for it you do, what possible good may come of his dying? Nor should we prolong the mourning . . . simply try to recall all the goodness tor which he stood and believed in until the very end . . . I am sure he would not have wanted it any other way. The Journey We began as the seed of a tree within the dark earth. We were nourished by the earth, but we yearned tor the warmth ol the sun. Together we stretched and pushed ourselves upward towards the sun. As the years passed, we grew upward, Forming a strong, straight trunk. Here we stand, yet our journey is just beginning. The trunk ot our tree is sturdy, But it is bare - we have no branches. One by one, we must have the strength to break away and become saplings. We will be weak and insecure, but with our strong trunk supporting us and the warm sun beckoning us, We will gain the strength to grow. As we mature, we will all encounter cruel winters and painful droughts. Some ol us will withstand them better than others, but none ot us can give in. We must endure the storm and stand tall, For our goal is to become a tremendously solid tree with a multitude of strong beautitul branches, Each reaching out towards the warm sun. - Marcia Anastasia
