' N .- Q Mr. Henry Cryer - Coordinator of Athletic Programs This year the class of 1978 wishes to dedicate its yearbook to lVlr. Henry Cryer, a most able and loyal athletic director. His career at P.C.H.S. began as a teacher and coach. He con- tinued in this capacity for many years. His keen awareness and knowledge of sports soon became apparent to others and this led him to become athletic director. His performance as such has earned the respect and admiration of all who know him. We wish him continued success. Mrs. Arthur J. Stanley I MEMQRIAM Joanne Brown If we had not known you, perhaps the day would be easier to understand. As it is our memory world has little room to forget. You were always there when we needed a friend, but now you're gone and we can't understand. When we think of you, we try to remember the good times. But it's hard to remember, when our eyes are filled with tears. Now you're gone and buried, and you will never know the feeling we carried. Amy Usher 'I .I f I . Can I move now? FALL SPQRTS H 1 I 1 J . 5 PQQTBALL In August, the upcoming football season looked quite dis- mal. Graduation and injuries to crucial players had taken their toll. With a handful of seniors and a corps of inexperienced underclassmen, Coach Carl Freyermuth set to work to form a football team. Although the Blue Eagles did as well as was predicted, com- piling a 36-1 season, there were a few bright spots. As each game went by, there was marked improvements in players and in the offense and defense. Towards the end of the sea- son, P-C gave every team a run for their money, The 1977 Plymouth-Carver football season will be noted as a year when each player dedicated as much as possible toward a team effort. Of these players, Peter Villani and Joe Fernandes were selected as OCL all-stars. Contributing sen- iors were Chuck Martin, Dave Reardon, Jim DeSisto, Richard Baker, Ed Strong, Cris Post, Victor Armstrong, Pete Stanghel- line, Paul Stasinos, Tony Taylor, Lou Montanari, and Doug A Preston. Many new ideas became reality, and things like a Spirit Week Parade, Christmas Post Office, Carnation Day could well become school traditions. Consistent leadership and some strong members brought us a year in which the Council was less concerned with profit and more concerned with trying new things and getting others involved. The Council also bought the school a mas- cot, gave scholarships, and got us into a thing called Free- wheelin. Lett: Treasurer - Tom Rose, Right: President - Richard Regan. The play dealt with the many antics of Mame Den- nis and her unorthodox ways of bringing up her nephew, Patrick. The cast which included Bonnie Willard, Bob Heath, Bill Canada, Lisa Arons, Mark Fer- riero, Mary Bastoni, Linda Allen, Jim Horenstein, and many others did a thor- oughly professional job which made the show an enjoyable hit. l i Q , I i 4 1 4 5 X-.,,,., wtf' W - X, , 4 1 51655: ' ws ,..,.x,-Mwwff-4vz ... ,f..+.-ff - .X www meh Itl S. I I' ICE HQCKEY The seniors on the 1977-1978 Ice Hockey team will have some good memories when thinking back to this past season. They had the best record, 6-8-3, since the team of 1973 C9-5-23. The goals and assists statistics were the best in five years. They beat Scituate for the second time in the school's history and were one of two teams to beat the tourney bound Silver Lakers, being the only team to shut them out this year. This year's team was led by Co-captains Sterling Macleod and Mike Maguire and fellow classmates Barry Driscoll and David Socha. All four skaters have played since their sophomore year and started this season determined to win some games, open some eyes, and make ice hockey known in Plymouth. Mike and David led the attack up front while Sterl and Barry protected the two junior goaltenders, Barret Davison and Mark Cingoland. As fate would have it, the team started off strong against a veteran Westwood team but was soon slowed down by Marshfield and Hingham, the tops in a tough Old Colony League. Then, in what some might have called a fluke, P-C upset the Laker team with Barrett getting the shut out and David scoring both goals, With the seniors leading the way, the underclassmen started doing their thing. Bob Fantoni was play maker for the junior line with Mike Socha setting up the garbage man, Kevin Mahoney, who in fifteen games scored ten goals including one hat trick Canother first in five yearsj. Another junior standout, Brian Driscoll, helped Sterl anchor the defense as well as aid the offensive attack by stickhandling through most of the oppo- nents, accumulating four goals and nine assists. Other juniors were defenseman Bob Montanari who was the team's heavy hitter, and forward Paul Stewart who was the utility man, filling in whenever and wherever necessary. This year's team had eight sophomores all of whom lettered and learned about hockey, desire, and determination. These rookies were defensemen: Bucky Willard, Marty Haire, and Steve Caramellog forwards: Bobby Osborn, Bruce Lindberg, Danny Nee, and Greg Weeks, and goalie: Steve Moran. These boys' characteristics were never more evident as when this young team played an experienced Scituate club without Barry and with Mike skating with a bad back in what would be his ninth and last game of the year. Down by one goal after two periods, the team was told of their sick teammate, Barry, who requested a win if at all possible. The cap- tains led the way once again with Mike scoring a tip-in goal from Sterl. Even though P-C was outshooting Scituate 11-1, Bar- retts big save set the stage for Sterl's game winner with only thirty seconds remaining. That last period was a team playing together, unselfishly, determined, and courageously for their teammate and friend, Barry, who displays these qualities every day. After this game, the frustration of losing Mike and Barry for the season started creeping into the team's efforts. The team did however bounce back to play some good hockey while Brian and David made the O.C.l. All-Star team. Thank you seniors for your leadership. Thank you juniors for your desire. Thank you sophomores for your determination. Thank you Donny for three years. Thank you team for your dedication and courage. Thank you God for Barry. GYMNASTICS Under the direction of first year coach Janet Murphy and captain Phyllis McDonough, the P-C gymnastics team compiled a 4-9 record this year. Despite the defeats which the girls suffered, the younger members of the team were given a chance to gain valuable experience while the sen- ior members strived to better themselves. Senior Marie Doten competed as this year's all-around, doing an outstanding job. Unfortunately, late in the season, Marie suffered an injury and was unable to compete. Coach Murphy turned to vet- eran Carolyn Turner who filled the position quite nicely. Overall, the 1978 gymnastics team was extremely pleased with its performance and the year ahead looks promising for all. wx? y 5 Phyllis, you're not superman! 1 --mv-mann - '- 5. Led by Captains Mark Bavelock and Andy Quint, the team posted a 7 and 8 record, with most of the losses coming in extremely close con- tests. We are comforted only with the memories of what has passed. Ch, but what memories. The years we spent together seem to fuse into one period of fleeting time. Happy times and sad times bridged by times of indifference and confusion. Flashes of laughter and tears, of sunshine and rain, of being close and of being torn apart, all come back to us as if in one emotion. Sometime when you feel that your going, would leave an unfillable hole, Just follow these simple instructions, And see how it humbles your soul. Take a bucket and fill it with water, Put your hand in it up to the wrist. Pull it out and the that's remaining, ls the measure of how you will be missed. You may splash all you please when you enter, you may stir up the water galore, But stop and you'Il find in a minute, That it looks just the same as before. We no longer played with any of our toys But were at the stage where, boys hate girls and girls hate boys Thumbs up! the girls would say Boys have cooties! so run away But the years of childhood passed us by And now it's on to P-C high We've changed so much in every way From shape and looks, to what we think and say We've learned the value of a true friend That this person is one whom you can always depend They'll keep a secret or make you smile And respect your values and your very own style Of all the care and love we had That came from a special ma and dad And still the support they give us now Makes us grow up as they taught us how We're growing now as we did then Some from without and a lot from within And though our lives have yet begun l'm sure you see how far we have come As seniors in high school we've matured a great deal But not nearly as much as we will for I feel The experience and knowledge of the future will show That each day we will continue to grow and growl Joyce Tassinari 1 1. 4.7.4. 1-, . v ,.1 u5lDv- 1. Not only have we learned a great deal, but we have had the opportunity to work with a number of people who have been of special help to us: Mrs. Donna Evans, not only our adviser, but also our friend and confidante. She has spent many long and tedious hours working with and for us on our yearbook. We greatly appreciate all that she has done. Mark Ferriero, Layout Editor. His dedication and his willingness to work helped make our year- book successful. Jon Pierson, Financial Manager. Jon's organization with our finances and advertisements elimi- nated many financial problems. Mark Tassinari, photographer. His availability in time of need helped us meet many deadlines. Arnie Lohmann, representative from Taylor Publishing Company. He has been our source of encouragement throughout the nine months of creating the yearbook. Last but not least, our yearbook staff. More than we expected attended our meetings and showed an exceptional interest and desire to work. This yearbook has a great deal of meaning to us, we hope it will be equally meaningful to you.
