In our complex times, we must learn to think not only of furthering ourselves but of furthering mankind. Ours is an age of awareness, an age of change. No longer are we young adults held to a world of fantasy- of security. We must meet the world 'ahead on.'7 It is the teacher who must guide and instruct us. He points out the right way to follow when one hopes oi' achieving some goal. He turns many pupils into scholars. He gains the respect of all who come in contact with him. In short, he, the teacher, shows us the true path to adulthood. And we have to think, above all, of the need for education. Education is the key to the jobs of the future. Education is the key to preserving individual capacity to act, to provide for oneself without dependence on government. And education, in the last analysis, is the key to understanding the world about us, the world of new nations and nuclear weapons, affluence and starvation, war and peace.
