Not a transitory practice, but rather a permanent one,' for it is inherent in humanity, and has proved an extreme means of expression. Man, dissatisfied with himself, looks for a scapegoat upon whom this dissatisfaction can be thrust. Or, a fear is manifested in persecution- a fear that well-worn paths will be covered by autumn leaves of dissention and new byways will be hewn through the forest of Establishment. . . Such was the case in England.' a fear of the Church that a Quiet Revolution would upset the Order. And thus, the fear manifested itself in persecution. Driven to rustic catacombs, the Dissenters sought freedom of expression- freedom-a shadowy image, an unnamable Essence, an ideal. Their passive strength: a refusal to fight. Migration . . . to Holland . . . The answer! The discovery of freedom! But no, not the freedom of self-determination. Only the molding of Self to the form of the Other. Foreignness permeated their existence: alienation from the Homeland bred melancholy. Wasted hearts, tugging already bowed heads to lower depths. New acquaintances, new practices.. .so hard to conform. They returned home, not as the Prodigal Son -not seeking forgiveness or acceptance -but with a Dream, a brave Dream, an unheard of Dream. Bearded heads meeting in thought planned a new society. An agent secured the means of emigration. . . The pilgrims departed. Thrice stopped in actual voyage-many disappointments -but not abandonment. Dreams in a mental cocoon erupted in winged Reality. Physical bonds were severed.. . but never those of the spirit. Freedom pierced the sea. ..a glimmering beacon. The choice, the step, never would they return. They would look back though . . . but, only over caped shoulders moving forward. 5- Mr. F. On October 9, 1965 the Blue Eagles were de- eated, 34-8, in the second home game of the season iy a strong, well-balanced Middleboro squad. The 'isiting Sachens rolled up a 20-8 score at half-time nd sewed up the contest with two touchdowns in he fourth quarter. The Blue Eagles couldn't pene- rate the tough Middleboro defense but scored once n a Clark to McLean pass. Ed Kralsowski, Wayne 'into, and Ron St. George played outstanding de- ense for P-C. The following Saturday a powerful unning team from Whitman-Hanson invaded Ply- nouth and simply overpowered the Blue Eagles, 6-0, for P-C's fourth straight loss of 1965. Using nd sweeps and keepers, Panther quarterback John lenson, with fine blocking support, carried Whit- ian-Hanson over the Blue Eagle defense. The P-C efenders were constantly on the field as a result f eight pass interceptions. At Abington on October 23 the Green Wave used wo quick third period touchdowns to defeat P-C, 0-12. Once again the Blue Eagles couldn't get tarted until it was too late. Co-captain Bob Janson nd quarterback Johnny Clark scored for the Blue Eagles on runs of 20 and 2 yards respectively. ohnny Clark, Billy Butters, and Bob Janson were utstanding in P-C's offensive effort. The Blue Eagles broke a 14 game losing streak ating back to 1963 when they tied Fairhaven 6-6. 'he visitors were our new non-league game oppo- ents. P-C played a sparkling game. After a score- :ss first half, Johnny Clark ran into the end zone rom three yards out on a keeper. Fairhaven tied Blue Eagle Team Hustles. . VARSITY FOOTBALL The Plymouth-Carver Blue Eagles dedicated their new on campus field on Saturday, September 25, 1965. Hosting Bridgewater-Raynham, the Blue Eagles could not christen their new field with a victory, as the Trojans outlasted the Eagles 14-8 in a real thriller. After Bridgewater-Raynham had scored twice, Plymouth-Carver's Dave Maccaferri picked up a fumble and ran forty yards. But it wasn't quite enough. Don McLean proved in this first game he was the best punter in the Southeast Conference with several booming kicks. The P-C eleven travelled the following Saturday to Rockland but the Blue Eagles chopped another close one, 12-6. The Plymouth-Carver boys domi- nated the second half but once again a two touch- down deficit was too much to overcome. The Blue Eagles scored when Don McLean grabbed a seven yard touchdown pass from quarterback Johnny Clark. Ron St. George should be praised for his fine defensive work for P-C. Pray for peace! The Blue Eagles mustered a final drive with 30 seconds left and when the final whistle blew the ball was on the Fairhaven 1-yard line. The Clark to McLean combination worked all afternoon and Allan Young, along with Doug Griswold, turned in fine offensive efforts for P-C. At the Blue Eagles last home game on November 6, Randolph squeaked by P-C, 14-6, in another ex- citing game. Spotting the Blue Devils on an 8-0 lead, the Blue Eagles scored when Don McLean caught a 19 yard pass from Johnny Clark and ran into the end zone. When Randolph made a fourth quarter touchdown the Eagles tried their best to pull the game out. But four dropped passes failed P-C in the final minutes. Senior signal-caller Johnny Clark played a fine game for the Blue Eagles. On November 13 at Scituate, P-C suffered their . Y' ...A 8 1 seventh loss of the season, 32-0. Despite a first half downpour, Sailor quarterback Connolly used end sweeps and roll-outs to pace the Scituate at- tack. The Blue Eagles' offense couldn't get rolling at all against a stalwart Sailor defense. At Kingston on Thanksgiving Day, the Blue Eagles met Silver Lake Regional High School, a team with a 2-6 record at game time. Neither team could score in the first half, but Silver Lake totaled 6 points with a pass to Bartlett. Quarterback Jeff Mendall converted and the Lakers led 7-0. Bill Beal scored for P-C soon after, but the two point con- version which would have resulted in victory, fell short. Both teams tried to improve the scoring but superb defense made that impossible. Final score: P-C 6, Silver Lake 7. Johnny Clark, Bill Stearns and Don McLean played an outstanding offensive game. FIELD HOCKEY '65 The Girls' Varsity Field Hockey Team had an excellent season this year, second only to Hingham High School, a new-comer to class C . In spite of the change in coaches, Miss MacDuffee replacing Mrs. Cheverie, the team still retained its good sportsmanship and outstanding record. The Junior Varsity team was able to win all of its games thus improving their last year's record. With skilled stick work they managed to beat Hing- ham, their strongest opponent. Though many of the team members will be gradu- ating this year, several of the varsity and junior varsity players will be returning next fall to face new challengers. We sincerely hope that next sea- son will be as successful as this season has been Come on Girls. You have two minutes to win this game! J.V. and Varsity captains, Trisha and Kathy. The dribbler-Jerry On March 1, the P-C Blue Eagles played Andover High School in a preliminary tech game at Needham High School. The first half was very close however, Mike Caton, Jerry Rose and Jack Mederios led a third quarter surge putting P-C out in front 38-31. In the last quarter of play, the Blue Eagles maintained their lead and with the help of Don McLean's rebounding, won the game 49-42. Jerry Rose was high scorer with 20 points. Freshman Dave Conroy made his debut with the varsity and scored 4 points playing offensive- ly and defensively. Three days later, P-C played arch-rival Middleboro and North Quincy High School in a quarter final tourney game. The first half was nip and tuck with Plymouth Carver lead- ing 26-24 going into the third period. But the Blue Eagles could score but five points to Middleboro's fifteen and trailed after three periods 39-31. Although the Eagles never stopped fighting, Middleboro's lead was just too much to overcome and the Sachems won it 52-46. Much praise should be given to Coach Hank Rogers and his team. With a good part of the team returning next year, the P-C Blue Eagles will definitely be a contender in next year's tech tourney. 44 H inghczm Win uczlwes The Plymouth-Carver Blue Eagles opened their 1965-66 hoop season by edging a strong Alumni team '72-71. P-C then concluded their non-league schedule by traveling to Taunton where they defeated a strong class A Coyle team 82-66. On January 4, P-C went to Silver Lake to begin Old Colony League action. Nothing seemed to go right for P-C and Silver Lake won 61-40. But the Blue Eagles didnlt taste defeat for over a month for they then reeled off a nine game winning streak. Rockland and Silver Lake provided tough opposition. The strong defense, the sharp backcourt play of Jack Medeiros and Jerry Rose, the solid rebounding of Doug Griswold and Donnie McLean and the sharp shoot- ing of Mike Caton, all contributed to the nine straight vic- tories. On February 8, Wareham ended our winning streak with a 65-44 upset knocking the Blue Eagles into second place, behind the pace setting Middleboro squad. In an ac- tion-packed contest, Middleboro triumphed 58-56. However, the Blue Eagles became eligible for the Eastern Mass. Tech Tourney with a 77-60 win over Hingham. The Blue Eagle hoopsters went into the first round with a second place finish and a fine league record of 11 and 3. P-C also placed three players on the Old Colony All-Star team-Mike Caton, sen- iorg Jack Medeiros, seniorg and Jerry Rose. Where's the ball fellas? Blue Eagles For Tech Tourney Jerry hoops it. Amidst the growing riculets, lost hope, heart, and joy wakened again. The pilgrims were enthralled by the nearing fulfillment of their time-worn dream -a place of certitude and peace. With renewed spirits, they commenced building and planting. In the soil, with the seeds of corn, they sowed their Dream. It was nurtured with hope and persistence, grew in strength, and blossomed into an enduring reality. 'b H' .1 Mft 1'f 9 Pain I iw 3' MM Q.
