GlRL'S 8. BOY'S STATE Each year the American Legion and American Legion Auxiliary, aided financially by various local organizations, sponsor Idaho's Syringa Girls' State and Gem Boys' State. The Program of the Girls' and Boys' State is designed to teach the girls and boys the duties, privileges, rights and responsibilities of American citizenship: and to arouse in each a love for the American form of Democracy. Every participant undergoes a week of intensive training in citlzensh and govemment. These girls and boys are selected by members of the Legion, Auxiliary and Faculty on the basis of Character, Leadership and Servi Each of P1ummer's delegates were selected to hold important offices. Barbara was County Assessor, Frieda was City Councilman, Terry was an Election Judge, Weldon was State Treasurer, and Jim was County Superintendent of Public Instruction.
