The passing of your smiling face has left a dim place in the corridors and class- rooms. Although we know that you have been freed of the pain that has haunted you these past eight years and that you were needed elsewhere, we cannot but mourn your loss. We wish you to know that you were greatly loved and are missed. It is because of this that we, the Senior Class of 1954, proudly dedicate this book to you, Theodore Hockenberry. Yours forever, THE SENIOR CLASS .3- Mr. Stepek BOARD OF EDUCATION It is the function of the Board of Education of the Plum Township School District to see that our schools are properly organized and administered. We soon ad- justed ourselves, however, and became good friends at the Get Acquainted Partyf' We tried our hand at one of those fancy shindigs, and found a real success in The Balloon Dance. Our head foremen that year were: President, Alvin Boeriog Vice President, La Roux Black, and Secretary, Marilyn Carney. TENDERFEET - 1951-1952 As tenderfeet we were as free as the tumbleweed while we ventured a little farther on ump We were led the trail of education. All the cowhands brought their gals to our dance, The jack-O-Lantern 1 11111,111:11 1-1 J 'H I ' 1 'yltyi ,E A,i L over rough ground by ' j W 1 i L our President, La Roux i Y ' Black, Vice President, 'M 'M Alvin Boeriog and Sec-- retary, Tillie Barnett. TOP HANDS -- 1952-1953 Our year on the range as top hands was a bang-up time Cand a very busy one too! D. We wore our first pair of six guns and were pretty rough hombres, but we still found time to attend out dance, The September Shuf- fle. Since we had gath- ered experience over the years, we were given H 'M time off from regular chores to present our play, Bolts and Nuts, which was more successful than a new pair of spurs on a lazy horse. Then came the night when we all turned dude and layed aside our chaps and lassos to attend the prom, Hawaiian Gardens. Leading the round-up were: President, John Hicks, Vice President, Sattie Moyer, and Secretary, Georgann Davis. A FOREMEN - 1953-1954 1 At last we have reached the fork in the trail. Although it has been rough at times, we have enjoyed every minute of it. We stopped along the way to attend our dances, The Sadie Hawkins Dance, The Coronation Ball, and The Senior Hop. During our spare time, we enjoyed scenes from the annual Senior Class Play. Scouting for the class were our capable leaders: President, john Hicks, Vice President, Milton Hrebinko, Secretary, Betty Pielegrinellig and Treasurer, Charles Vernosky. CLASS Excitement electrified the air as we moved along the trail of our junior year. On the way we peddled lolly pops to some passing buckaroos. Later we stopped at the play house to present our class play, Parents Are Like That, which turned out to be a rollicking success. In the flurry of evening gowns and corsages we climaxed our travels with one of the O F 1955 most gala proms on record. The class of '55 has successfully reachedthe end of another hard trail. And now, as we stand at an- other fork in the long trail, we can only hope that our senior year proves a great climax to a wonderful high school career. Standing. left to right: J. CLASS OF 1956 f T 1 5 Y 5, ,... ff 1 l Another mile of rough ground is behind us now, as the sign post announcing our junior year looms in the near distance. This, too, will be a long hard pull, as we near the end of the trail. As the future stands before us, fond memories of the past remain of events we enjoyed through- out the year. Our yearly hoedown was called the Turkey Trot. We also gathered funds by holding bake sales in the local communities, which all added to making our coming junior year a success. Serving the council this year were eighteen members, two boys and two girls from each of the tenth, eleventh, and twelfth grades, and one boy and one girl from each of the seventh, eighth, and ninth grades, who are elected annually by the student body. Also one representative was elected from each re- spective homeroom to report all important news and activities of the council to his fellow classmates. The Safety Patrol is made up of the hall and bus patrols whose duty it is to prevent confusion and disorder between classes and on the buses. No one can mistake the reliable hall patrol mem- bers. These students are the senior girls and boys, sta- tioned either at the top or the bottom of the stairs, who can be heard saying, Keep to the right, 'Tm sorry, no running in the halls. The members are picked at the beginning of their senior year by the teachers who judge them by their qualities. -47E The bus patrol is made up of members picked from their assigned bus to be in charge of the students rid- ing the buses. Each bus has a captain and a co-captain in charge. The bus patrol members are hard-working students who make sure that there is no smoking, swearing, or any other poor conduct while riding the buses. Each year the members attend a picnic at Ken- nywood Park held in honor of all the bus patrol mem- bers of Western Pennsylvania. FUTURE FARMERS OF AMERICA The Future Farmers of America is one of the hardest working and largest organizations at Plum High, besides raking an active part in the nation- wide organization. To be entitled to membership, a student must be studying vocational agriculture. As in years before, there are many duties to be performed. Some of these include planting pine trees, corn husking, and helping neighboring farm- ers. The Allegheny County Fair and the State Farm Show are only two of the many places visited by these students. After a year of service the members receive the traditional jacket of the Future Farmers of America Organization. Our eight enthusiastic girls supported the teams, and boosted their morale. They led the student body in roaring cheers both at, games and at pep rallies. Georgeann was always ready to give out with a rousing cheer at games. Vir- ginia, our cute blonde-haired cheerleader with her pleasing personality, was well liked by everyone. Pat, with her cheerfulness and radiant smile, was very dependable and en- thusiastic. joanne, the only one on the squad to have black hair, always added the zip the students needed at games. Becky, with her agreeableness and determination, could always be found yelling at the top of her voice at all the games. Arlene, who always gave en- couraging remarks to the student body at pep meetings, added much to the squad, The four juniors, along with our sophomore, Janie, who always enjoyed cheering, and our freshman, Mary jane, who always cheered loud and long for the team, will be here next year supporting the team. The cheerleaders had a successful year under the capable leader- ship of Mrs. Hempel, and are looking forward to another next year. ' 4 H- Y ,,,. Here you see the five able leaders of Plum's athletic program. Whether they be Physical Education teachers, varsity coaches, junior varsity or junior high coaches, they are the men who arouse the interest of the boys in the various sports. Mr. Romero, our head coach, is in charge of the senior high gym classes, varsity football, basketball, and baseball. He is also the sponsor of the Varsity Club. Mr. Hemphill is the assistant coach in charge of football and basketball. He also helps coach the track team. Mr. O'Block, who lends a welcome hand in football, basketball, and baseball, may also be seen with the Junior High basketball team. Mr. Tecak may be found anytime helping out with all sports, but mostly he is seen with his junior High athletes. In this program, Mr. Christy is faculty manager. He is also head coach of the track team. Our congratulations go to these men, who have made Plum's sports program what it is. gud was MR. TECAK MR. CHRISTY F ag , 5,2 fa. The following senior boys will not be with the Mustangs: J. Hicks, L. Pasierb, K. Patla, J. Brevard, S. Stairs, R. Hrebinko, and Ron Barckhoff. The Mustangs had a record of two wins to six losses. This wasn't as good as it might have been, but the boys played fine ball under the able coaching of Mr. Rometo and Mr. Hemphill. But as the sea- son progressed, our inexperienced boys gained more confidence and made a fine showing by placing second in the WPIAL Class Meet at Pitt Stadium. Vic Zucco, outstanding WPIAL track athlete of the previous year, was hampered by a leg injury K 1953 this season, but was still good enough to be chosen again as 'the star of the Class B Meet this year. Vic also placed second in the Broad Jump at the Track Finals at Penn State. The loss of practically the entire 1952 Cham- pionship squad was felt this yearg but now that the junior High Track has been added, we feel that our varsity squad will benefit as they gain the necessary experience in the junior High track meets.
