At these meetings, the members were required to wear different items of clothing, jewelry, and other accessories in order to earn points. This year only one junior, Jennifer Smolak, was inducted. Rhonda Grove, Jason Willard, and Scott Walsh were provisional members. The ceremony included a duet by Sheila Brenteson and Linn Lidahl, a serious solo by Barbie Wiers, the candlelight induction, and a few remarks from our guest speaker, Dr. Tom Lidahl. The seniors wish Jennifer the best of luck in lighting all of the candles for next year’s induction! Lenae Lindblom Gink' Gm Shelly and I attended Girls’ State at Carroll Col- lege in Helena. We spent the week with approximate- ly 300 girls representing all areas of Montana. We met many people, and not all of them were politi- cians! While at Girls’ State, we learned a great deal about politics including how our government is run and the importance of our political rights. We also attended presentations on leadership and women’s roles in politics. We discussed Montana law, especially the then new seat belt law. We even visited with the National Guard during our stay in Helena. The saying “a time to remember” is the perfect one for my week at Girls’ State. My favorite part of the week was the two days we spent touring the capitol. We were divided into the House and Senate, and we were given the opportunity to debate bills proposed by the members of Girls’ State. It was fantastic! At Girls’ State, a person cannot be shy. Everyone who was active had a blast. The key to enjoying and learning at Girls’ State is to be involved. I hope all of the girls who will be attending in the future learn as much, make as many friends, and have as much fun as I did! Barbara Wiers This past year in FFA has been an excit- ing one. For the first time Plentywood had a Meats team that went to Winter Fair in Bozeman. Later, Plentywood attended the local District FFA Convention held in Medicine Lake. Our Chapter placed 4th overall. The Crops team took 2nd place with Travis Wang as high individual. The Soils and Range team took 6th overall. The Mechanics team placed 2nd, with Ke- vin Wilson placing 2nd individual overall. The Livestock, Farm Management, and Extemporaneous Speaking teams all placed 3rd. We also participated at the State Con- vention in Bozeman. We placed 20th out of 50 teams in the sweepstakes contest. In the individual sweepstakes rankings, out of 334 people participating, Travis Wang placed 50th; Mike Johnson placed 61st; Kevin Wilson, 132nd; Doug Rasmussen, 191st; and Carey Borah, 209th. In the Farm Management contest, we placed 12th. Our Crops team, which included Doug Rasmussen, Travis Wang, and Carey Borah, took 24th place, and the Mechanics team, which consisted of Mike Johnson, Kevin Wilson, and Carey Borah, took 6th overall. At the FFA Banquet, held Monday, May 2. Kevin Wilson received Outstand- ing FFA Member and the FFA Alumni Scholarship. Above: The FFA president. The success didn’t come from winning games, but rather from gaining ex- perience and learning skills. The team consisted of only three returning players: two seniors, Missy Romstad and Shelly Chandler, and one Junior, Dorothy Trewyn. The season was immediately off to a bad start when Missy injured her knee in the very first game. Unfortunately, this injury kept her from competing until tournament time. Considering the experience and knowledge we gained this year, next year’s team should be strong com- petitors. I wish the Lady Cats the best of luck during their 1988-89 sea- son. The most important question was “Who is going to play quarterback?” There wasn’t a Wildcat on the roster who had taken a snap varsity in a game. When practice began, the answer to that question became apparent: “Scott Walsh, the new superintendent’s kid.” The next question everyone asked was “Are the Wildcats going to finish in fifth or sixth place this year?” That question was answered when the Wildcats finished — not fifth OR even sixth — but second in the conference! Even though the season ended after the first play-off game against the Wolf Point Wolves, the Wildcats had achieved more than anyone had anticipated at the beginning of the season. The fans were the ones to ask the final question: How did you guys do it?” The Wildcats’ answer was quite simple: “A whole lot of WANT to.” Scott Christiansen Boifi BaikethcM VARSITY Back Row: Coach Dan Moe, Paul McCarty, Casey Getty, Curtis Trewyn, Jeff Lee, Tyler Will, Eric Arneklev, Coach Casey Osksa. On the outside, we looked like nothing more than a bunch of slow and skinny kids. Yet, on the inside, we were a group of people who worked as hard as we could to achieve the team’s goals. This attitude took us to a 19 and 5 record and a third place finish at the State B Tournament. Our Wildcat team was very much like a family. We cheered, laughed, and cried to- gether on our way to creating a most memorable season in PHS history. Thank you to the best fans and coaching staff in the state for your part in this very special season. Tyler Will Plentywood VS Crosby ...... Plentywood VS Medicine Lake Plentywood VS Poplar....... The Wildcat was published by seven members of the senior class: Mike Anderson, Lorenzo Hendrickson, Kim Kanning, Barbie Wiers (Editor), Sheila Halverson, Kendall Iverson, and Jeff Odegard; it was under the advisement of Arvilla Reed. Stuckifr 1987-88 was the first year for Little Wildcat coaching. There were a great number of high school students who coached football, girls’ basketball, and boys’ basketball to the young athletes in grades three through six. The entire program was under the direction of the high school coaching staff. The coaches taught the younger athletes basic skills and good sportsmanship. Because of the program, the students will be that much more familiar with the sports by the time they start competing with oth- er schools in junior high. Hopefully, the Little Wildcats of today will be the state champions of the future.
