“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, we had everything before us. we had nothing before us This age was not so different from our own. The following is a list of events that took place in 1985- 1986: The Statue of Liberty was renovat- ed; the gas wars brought the price of gas from $1.20 to $.85, and the space shuttle Challenger exploded only one minute into space. Internationally. President Reagan and Soviet President Gorbachev met in Geneva for arms talks; some countries united in an effort to raise money to reduce the famine in Afri- ca; the Filipino President Aquino ousted Ferdinand Marcos; the U.S. attacked Libya after their attack on American vessels, and Halley’s comet made its appearance after 77 years. Locally, Mayor Bob Marlenee died; the farmers continued to suffer from the drought and the grasshoppers, and jobs were scarce as the oil boom dwindled.
