1986 TREASURE CHEST Filmed on location at Plentywood High School Plentywood, Montana S92S4 “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, we had everything before us. we had nothing before us This age was not so different from our own. The following is a list of events that took place in 1985- 1986: The Statue of Liberty was renovat- ed; the gas wars brought the price of gas from $1.20 to $.85, and the space shuttle Challenger exploded only one minute into space. Internationally. President Reagan and Soviet President Gorbachev met in Geneva for arms talks; some countries united in an effort to raise money to reduce the famine in Afri- ca; the Filipino President Aquino ousted Ferdinand Marcos; the U.S. attacked Libya after their attack on American vessels, and Halley’s comet made its appearance after 77 years. Locally, Mayor Bob Marlenee died; the farmers continued to suffer from the drought and the grasshoppers, and jobs were scarce as the oil boom dwindled. Some of the best movies of the year included Rambo, Back to the Fu- ture. and Nightmare on Elmstreet. 4 With our compliments to Charles Dickens Elaine Johnson Class of ’87 I I . . .and now presenting the Class of 1986! 5 Seniors f rx'r, Ijfn l- , rntldc T rhxf- KCdams Seniors J OCU W. Getting organized (lefty Girls’ Boys’ State In June, Marlene Thompson traveled to He- lena for her week-long stay at Girls’ State while Frank D’Angelo and Pomper Domsten traveled to Dillon to Boys’ State. While at- tending these conferences, they learned how city, county, and state governments work. Marlene experienced a mock Supreme Court trial and Senate and House sessions. She also had the opportunity to meet state officials and to tour the state capitol. Mar- lene says of her experience, “I feel I learned a great deal, and I feel that everyone who has the chance to go, should.” Frank and Romper attended a variety of seminars dealing with our nation’s policy and the policy of our state. They set up cities and counties within their dorm halls. Accord- ing to Frank, “The funniest part of Boys’ State was meeting different people. We all made treasured friends. Boys’ State is something everyone should strive for ...” National Honor Society Richard Tvedt. Eric Boswell. I didn't know she was your sister! — Lonnie M. 52 The 1985-1986 football season began like any other sea- son with vigorous practices in the sweltering heat of late August. High anticipation was thick in the air as every player strove to ready his body for the upcoming games. An important factor going for the team was the abundance of experienced veterans. These, and a mix of versatile underclassmen, worked together to earn a 5-3 record, tak- ing the Wildcats to the first round playoffs, only to be defeated by the Wolf Point Wolves. With our State Cham- pionship hopes shattered, we all were reluctant to end the season; some knowing they would never play again in helmets and shoulder pads, and I was one of them. Regard- less of the upsets and missed touchdowns, the season proved fruitful. And I. speaking for the whole team, am proud to say. ' 1 played for the Plentywood Wildcats. However, as the years pass us by and the 1985-86 season goes down in the records, we can all reminisce about the camaraderie experienced on a brutal and ruthless grass field, often known as a gridiron. The business gets free labor for a couple of hours a day; the students get valuable work experience, hopefully in the field they some- day will pursue. In addition, the students receive a half-credit towards graduation. They obtain skills in various work situations, such as, dealing with customers, making sales, and meeting deadlines. This year (1986) we had fourteen seniors in the CO-OP ED program. Their places of employment ranged from Sheridan Memorial Hospital to the Piggle Wiggly. This program is a good one and hopefully underclassmen will be encouraged to partici- pate next year. But they are all forgotten now As we say goodbye to you. Oh. pooh! My favorite salad is all gone! Mrs Will See! I don't have any food be- tween my teeth! The flaming torch of leadership Is ours to own next year. It means responsibility . . We take it with some fear. We'll try to lead our PHS With pride and with tradition We'll try to do as well as you. In this sad transition. Do you really think you will be missed. As we enter school next fall? As we travel down the classroom trail. As we move from hall to hall? The answer is. of course you will! For friendships never die ... The memories will linger long . .. WE HATE TO SAY GOODBYE! We wish you well in every way; Success in all you do . .. To the class of nineteen eighty-six. We send our love with you.
