Text from Pages 1 - 74 of the 1962 volume:

Tfi P.f-f.S. Bom L ow PojuoA I Following snappy P.H.S. majorettes the band appeared in traditional Wildcat black and orange at Band Day in Williston. This event was one of many which climaxed a successful and memorable year at Plentywood High School. DeiicottWv . . . SyJwto JoWow During our high school days there have been many occasions when we have needed help, a favor, or advice. It was in these times that we found that we could rely on Sylvia, our hardworking P H S secretary. Sylvia, who is one of the first to walk through the school doors in the morning and last to leave at night, has spent countless hours typing, mimeographing, telephoning, issuing lunch tickets, and a vast number of other tasks, to keep our school func- tioning smoothly. To you, Sylvia, in appreciation of your generosity and effi- ciency, we, the class of 1962, dedicate this volume of the Treasure Chest. PllTUPtL? smons Qmxyv f-fisWj In the fall of 1950, fifty-seven five, six, and seven year olds entered the Plentywood Public School for the first time and met their first teachers, Miss Agnes Mullen and Miss Joan Larsen. This was just about the most important thing that had ever happened to them then! Our first eight years of school were normally spent studying and eagerly awaiting for the day of eighth grade graduation where several rural students joined us in the exercises. As we entered high school in the fall of 1958, our class of 76, which was the largest ever to enter PHS, earned the name of the Class of 62. After having been duly initiated as freshmen by the class of 1961, we got into the swim of things by joining various organizations and participating in many school functions and activities. We proved our musical abilities in band and chorus and other musical groups. A large number of boys became active in the three major sports. Several of our class have represented PHS at the annual Williston Band Day festivities, at State Music Meets in Missoula, and at state FFA and FHA conventions. In 1960, our class was represented at the state basketball tournament in Cutbank, and that same year, we won the annual inter-class track meet. Tragedy struck, too, though in December of 1959, when a faithful classmate, Curtis Christenson, was killed in an auto mishap. The whole school, as well as our class, was saddened by the loss of Curt. Now we were juniors. We had lost many classmates along the way side, for we had only 54 of our original 76. In the fall of 1960, we displayed our acting ta'lents by the successful production of three one-act plays under the direction of Miss Osta Madsen. The titles of these plays were Two Crooks and a Lady, Dear Departed, and Teen-age Party. The next spring we hosted the junior-senior banquet and the junior prom. The theme for both of these events was Hawaiian Cruise. Our memorable senior year was launched by winning the prize for the best homecoming float, and later by capturing the pep jug. Our dramatic production was No More Homework, a hit comedy, again under the direction of Miss Madsen. On December 23, we hosted the Christmas Ball, the theme being White Christmas. As we look forward to commencement, we stand to be the largest class ever to graduate from Plenty- wood High School with 54 receiving their diplomas. A busy week is coming up with Baccalaureate scheduled for May 20, Class Night the 22nd, and Commencement the 24th. Hope we make it through! The hard work of 12 years is finally paying off. Of the 57 students that started here in the first grade, we have 30 that are still with us. They are: Keith Anderson Doris Hilyard Fern Mehl Harlan Skillingberg Curtis Antonson Janet Johnson Willard Michels Karen Sprague Donald Eggen Darlene Joyes Jerry Olson Mary Ann Timmerman Joanne Eggen Elaine Juve Karrol Peterson Ruby Wang Dwayne Evenson Dennis Ketterman Linda Peterson Roy Welter Barbara Fleming Kari Linn Kienitz Ron Rierson Robert Willard Linda Hass Glenn Klofstad Mary Lou Simonis Bernard Wold James Herman Karen Lee Other graduating seniors who have joined us along the way are: Judy Bergh Betty Goetzinger Sharon Larsen Bradley Peterson Gerry Bergrude Susan Jensen Careen Looman Eileen Rasmussen Don Davenport James Kaip Donna Loupe Willard Rorvig Leslie Enghusen Karl Kanning Clayton McCall Susan Scott Edward Flacker Allen Lagerquist Marjory Mortenson Marvin Severson Karen Flacker Ron Larsen Marian Palmer Larry Thompson dote oh '62 KAREN LEE Valedictorian MOTTO With the ropes of the past we will ring the bells of the future. We now switch our cameras to Plentywood, Montana, where our special correspondent is standing by. Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. We are speaking to you from the terrace of the fabulous Keefer's Kitchen, largest and most luxurious of a nation-wide chain of restaurants owned by Keith Anderson. As we look over the dining room, we see a few members of the class of 1962 have already arrived and excitement is running high. On stage, famous comedians James Herman, Jerry Olsen, and Bradley Peterson are already clowning around. Seated in the far corner, Jim Kaip, athletic director at P. H. S., is discussing his experiences with Dennis Ketterman, All-Pro fullback with the Baltimore Colts. Ronald Larsen, center for the Boston Celtic's basketball team is now joining them, along with Gerry Bergrude, who plays for the Green Bay Packers. Now coming through the door is Karl Kanning, the Democratic candidate for President of the United States. He is followed by his campaign manager, Don Davenport, and a whole battery of secretaries, including Betty Goetzinger, Linda Hass, Darlene Joyes, Marian Palmer, Karen Sprague, and Mary Ann Timmerman. Here come the cheerleaders for the New York Yankees. Now that the baseball has an accepted organized cheers. Dwayne Evenson, owner of a large chain of supermarkets, has just entered, followed by Allan Lagerquist who is a professional rabbit hunter. A1 boasts he never gets less than a dozen a night. Roy Welter, automobile designer, has taken time off to be present. We are now missing only one member of the Class of 1962, Willard Michels. Here he comes now, late as usual. Woody is the only T.
