THE TREASURE C HEST 19 f Senior Class Pi entjuood H i jh School 'Pie n tjwooJ, V o 1 u vr c V FOREWORD We take this opportunity to thank all who have made it possible for us to put out this yearbook. We extend a special thank you to the business men of Flentyvood whose names appear as sponsors of the individual pages. As you turn these pages, we hope that you will enjoy recalling the various re- corded incidents which have taken place during this past school year. We hope you like it. THE ANNUAL STAFF A. J. UNGER INSURANCE We, of the annual staff, dedicate this TREASURE CHEST to Lieutenant Allen Feldner in appreciation of the fine work he has done as coach and instructor at Plentyvood High School previous to the time he was called back into the service. Though his teams were not always the champions, he instilled in his players the ideals of sportsmanship; which are team-work, leadership, and fair play, and they came to know that it isn't just the outcome of the game that counts, but the spirit in which the game is won or lost. His work, academic and athletic, will remain as one of the treasures of our high school years. CUSS HISTORI In the fall of 1939, 35 of us young children received our first taste of education in the Plentyvood Public Schools. We worked our way up through the first eight grades losing some members and gaining some. As eighth graders we wowed the high school with our play Buddy An- swers an Ad. Thirty two of us were graduated from the eighth grade on recommendation above and beyond our dramatic ability. As we began high school, there were initiated forty-three aspiring freshmen, among whom were 14- of the original group whose apple—polish- ing had brought them this far. Several girls joined T. N. T. and quite a few boys took active part in sports. As Juniors we presented I Re- member Mama. We transformed the auditorium into a miniature Holland for the Junior—Senior Prom and likewise carried the Dutch theme for the banquet. As Seniors we staged the annual Christmas Ball and the tradi- tional class play, Our Town . We published the Treasure Chest. Yet to come is the much anticipated Senior Day , and then the culmination of our hopes—Commencement. We shall always remember our Plentyvood days as some of the happiest times of our lives. PEPSI-COLA BOTTLING CO. Nesbitt orange, squirt, 5-Hi flavors PROPHECY As I came in on the Johnson Airline, owned by Earl Johnson, to at- tend the class reunion, I noticed how the town of my school days has grown into a booming metropolis. I was met at the air terminal by Don Shoal—the mayor of Plentywood, and his bodyguard—John Johnson. Don tells me he has really reformed the town. V.'e skimmed along the high- way in Tomo's Model T Taxi Service of which Milo is president. ■ When we reached the metropolis Don took me to the best hotel—The Triple- R , Raaen's Rest Rooms. We had lunch at the Skylite Roam which was in a large hotel. They explained to me that Paul was the owner. In fact Paul now owns 3 4- of Plentywood. He struck oil in his back yard and has become quite a prosperous man. At about 9 o'clock we went to the Club SI where the class reunion was to be held. Some of my old classmates were already there and more were coming. Some enchanting music was coming from the orchestra's stand. Here were Ronnie's Raging Rhyemettes, featuring Charlotte J. Gaines as the vocalist. They waved at me as I came in and later I learned that the band tours this continent and South America. Marietta Golterman, who has done the interior decorating for Club 51 , is here with her husband. Clarice Gabrielson and her husband have returned from their long-delayed honeymoon just in time for the party. Peg Iverson and Agnes Christensen have brought those prosperous farmers from Outlook. A great noise resounds from the entrance. A cry is heard. Someone has fainted. But then who wouldn't? Charles Atlas Morck has just come In. To the girls he is irresistable. With him is that great man of the world—Bill Pierce, who has now come to replace Mr. America. Joan Grove and Fern Enghusen are dress designers with Eveline Hep- pner as their model. They will design everything for a young girl's wardrobe. Peg Aakhus is a leading play writer for MGK. Here comes that man who has done so much for the affairs of Montana. Is it? Yes, it's Senator H. Pierce. He has THREE CADILLACS! Mickey Boulds, now a millionaire from Chicago, is financing the Gross Construction Company to oil the road to Crosby, N. D. Lyle Nagel is now captain of the 399th Division of the National Guard. Lyle Mann is the Champion Middle-weight boxer of North America. Leon layers is his manager. Betty Jensen and Donna Ersness are home on leave from the Wafs. James Welter is now owner of the White Star Laundry of Wolf Point. He serves every town in Montana with laundries set up in over 20 towns. Dorothy Enderson, now living in Minnesota, was unable to come to- night. She informed Marlene Sedivec. By the way, Marlene is now a leading hair-stylist, in fact, the best in Plentywood. And, last but not least, are Etta Johnson and Grace Cybulski. They are escorted by the prosperous farmer from Raymond. I wonder which one finally will get him? As the evening canes to a close, I must hurry home. The 84.th ses- sion of Congress is going to convene on Monday morning, and I am never late. Sincerely, Gladys Johansen EINSTEIN'S FAMILY HUNGRY???? Our Town depicts the life of a New Hampshire village—with its humor, picturesquesness and pathos—set against a background of centuries of time, social history, and religious ideas. The play begins in 1901 in Grover1 s Comers where the Gibbs and the Webbs are neighbors. During their childhood George Gibbs and Emily Webb are playmates, and as they grow older, they pass from this period into a state of romantic interest in one another. This leads to marriage, but their happiness is short-lived, for Emily dies and is placed in the village cemetery on a rainy, dreary day. In this most vitally moving scene is shown the peace and quiet of death which can never be understood by the living. Cast: Stage Manager, Dan Gross; Dr. Gibbs, Harlan Pierce; Mrs. Gibbs, Mina Raaen George Gibbs, Paul Norgaard Rebecca Gibbs, Peggy Iverson; Mr. Webb, Ronald Marsh; Mrs. Webb, Dorothy Enderson; Emily Webb, Charlotte Gaines; Wally Webb, Milo Tomo; Joe Crowell, Billy Pierce; Howie Newsome, Mickey Boulds: Simon Stimson, Donald Shoal; Mrs. Soames, Grace Cybulski; Constable Warren, Charles Morck; Jane Craig, Marietta Golterman; Joe Stoddard, James Welter; Woman in the balcony, Dorothy Chandler; People of the tcwn, Gladys Johansen: Earl Johnson, Dean Hagen, Etta Johnson, Jackie Beaman, Peggy Aakhus, Leon Ifyers. Already in a little trouble for having given the Best Theme prize to a talented nobody named Jane, for having kept a star athlete after school, Miss Brooks, when the school play is thrust upon her, runs into more difficulty with a tempermen- tal music teacher, and almost ruins her plans to snare the coach Events, however, develop in such a way as to untangle all her private and public problems and the success of the play brings harmony once more between Our Miss Brooks and the harassed principle, the disillusioned coach, the school board president and all concerned. The cast includes: Miss Brooks, Yvonne Wilson; Hugo, the coach, Jerome Onstad- Mr. Wadsworth, the highschool princi- pal- Donald Quam; Jane, Rita Grove Ted Wilder, Dick Gross: Rhonda Allen, Shirley Simonis- Mrs. Allen, Evelyn Erdahl; Miss Audobon, the music teacher, Lois Stageberg- Miss Finch, the lib- rarian. The team was defeated by a score of 6-0. Scobey scored their one and only touchdown on the very first play of the game on a completed pass. They were victorious in their third non-conference game with the Williston Bn on the local field, defeating them 65-0. Playing at Wolf Point on October 6, the Cats lost their first conference game by a margin of 18-0. At the next game, which was played at Malta on October 13, the Cats showed a decided improvement which led them to victory by a score of 13-6. The following Saturday the Cats invaded the Scotties camp at Glasgow, only to receive their third defeat by a lopsided score of 26-6. On October 28, the injury plagued Wildcats played their last game of the season with the Scobey Spartans who won the game by one touchdown. The game was fought on fairly even terms with Scobey having a slight edge. Plentywood did not come to life until the third quarter when they pushed across two touchdowns on passes. The Cats were trying desperately to push across their third score when the gun went off leaving the final score 20-13, Scobey's favor. Seniors on the squad were: C. Morck, P. Norgaard, D. Gross, H. Pierce, M. Boulds, R. Marsh, W. Pierce and J, Welter. PLENTYWOOD MOTOR SALES INC. MCKEE STENHJEM LAND CO WILDCATS Left to Eight: Mgr.
