After these preliminaries. work started in earnest. There were ads to solitit and material to collect. As the first dead- line rolled around. the BREEZE started to take shape. For coreditors we were lucky in having two capable people, Phyllis Marshall and Lewis Phillips. Many personal pleasures were given up in order to resign themselves to long hours of work so necessary in the completion of this publication. As time went on and more material was gathered there were pictures to 1 lg ' it il . I ' isxgwx :Tia ?H If , 'Eff 1 7 ' X if 'i 'C 7 iff., ,411 1-1-li qlii N f .23 , taff be taken. This call was answered by two very able and tireless p h o t o g r a p h e r s. Eugene Cook and Herbert Shaw who worked endlessly in the picture department. The faculty division was under the direction of Midge McDonnel. Pat Caven and Herbert Crippen co-edited the sports depart- ment and Eileen Glover and Pat Parsells were co- editors of the Senior write ups. George Stamps and Fred Poley handled the business while Dot McFarland directed the class articles. The feature department was edited by Dot Clement and Evelyn Lutz. Susan Reese, and jim Zipfel aided in the artwork. 10 3,- Q .7' af: yr f 14 X KN?-Q AJ so ne, 'mm Our ?our years FRESHMAN YEAR On a balmy breezy day four years ago we entered P H S as bewrldered Freshmen One of the frrst thmgs we dxd was to look for the swrmmmg pool eleyators and other conyemences for whrch the Senlors had sold us tickets They also took great pams rn sendmg us mto the wrong rooms and up and down the wrong stairs But the haze started to lrft and we organrzcd by clectmg class offrcers rm Fearn was elected presrdent Anthony Perrr uce president Phyllls Marshall and Elrzabeth Cranston secretarres and Midge Mc Donel treasurer We were fortunate rn haung Miss Haldeman and Mr Errlckson as our yery able class adusers and Mr john S Helm bold our prmcrpal The Mag Suay our flrst dance found the gym decorated wrth darsres and yarrous other flowers A tall may pole standing rn the center of the floor had streamers flowrng from the top to the walls The hrghlxght of the eyemng came when Pat Parsells vrronment we were more stabrlrzed when the year ended SOPHOMORE YEAR Returnmg to school rn the fall we found that there had been a change rn the admrnrstratron Our former prmcrpal Mr Helmbold had now become supermtendent of schools upon the retrrement of Mr Charles O Wrlson Mr Ellmore H Slaybaugh capably replacrng hrm displayed a whole hearted mtercst rn the school Durmg the year our class partrcrpated rn and presented many yarred productions Ably directed by Mr Censulo the chorr gaye an outstandrng performance of The Meruab by Handel Guest solorsts mcluded Alrce Adams soprano Edna Rrley contralto Kenneth Hooyer tenor and Rrchard Souder bass Insprred by Mr Slaybaugh the student body co operated rn the productnon of College Daze a yarrety show whrch mcluded such thmgs as pantomrmes musrcal selectrons and comedy acts Our soclal yentures were constituted by the dances Hamer! IUNIOR YEAR Returning from a pleasant vacation, we turned in our suntan and beachsand for pencils and textbooks, only to find that on top of every- thing else, we were temporary managers of the cafeteria. Under the guidance of Mrs. Long and Mrs. Beckman, we managed to keep the dish-breaking down to a minimum and food production up to a, maximum. Through mass production in the kitchen, the class accumu- lated a large profit which went toward our Senior expenses. Growing used to this job many of us began to prepare sandwiches in our sleep. Even though it was a difficult task, we ended our cafeteria duties suc- cessfully and even felt remorse when it came time for the Sophomores to replace us in May. Early in the year, try-outs were held for the play, Beaury and the Beef. From the many candidates a fitting cast was selected by Miss Riehm, director. After the try-outs, work started in earnest. Rehearsals were held every night after school. Stage hands and property men worked like mad and on November 15 and 16 the results of all of this work were put to a test. The play proved to be a success and as a result Our treasury went up. After waiting two long years, the time rolled around to order class rings. There was a beautiful selection of rings to choose from and so we placed our orders and then started waiting for the day when our rings would come back. The crowning event of the year came when the Juniors gave the Prom, having a Hawaiian theme. Moku Ka Hoobiaai or Irle of En- chantment was the name. The music of Charles Estell and his orchestra flowed forth for our dancing pleasure from a background of lattice work. A beach scene and sunset were placed as a mural along the wall. janet Parks and Archie Rinaldo proved to be an excellent choice for queen and king of the prom, with janet Worthington and john Clem- ent as first runners-up and Sally Angerman and Dan Hickey second. Thus we took the last step which advanced us into the final year in our school-the greatest of all, the senior year. 'st ,fvr . , Q l P-:D wi BEE? il 25 ,n er-in xt. EAUTY -X a4'.. Although much of the weight fell upon our officers, Bob Pollard. presidentg Larry Smith. vice president: Pat Parsells. secretary: and Midge McDonel, treasureri they were fully sup- ported by most of their classmates. Taking the magazine drive in our stride, we surpassed our goal of eight thousand dollars, thus setting a new record for P.H.S. We were awarded an attractive plaque for our efforts. Mary Mae Gibson and Bob Bartlett. tied for first place, won a wristwatch and radio, res- pectively. The success of this drive greatly enlarged our treasury. During the football season we took over the concession stand under the supervision of Mr. Williams. This. the basketball concession, and the placement of orders for individual graduating pictures helped to pay for the Wasliington trip and yearbook. The Christmas Play, Good King U enre5lizn.r, was composed of mostly seniors and directed by Miss lane Reihm. It was successfully presented both here and in the surrounding communities. Having braved the storms of mid-years, we gave our last dance, A ffigbl T0 Remember. the annual Sweetheart Dance. Bob Chester's Or- chestra provided the music and the evening was climaxed by the 'PRTQTT 'Qin ' -LLELQ lux Q crowning of Ann johnson as Miss Sweetheart, with Pat Palmer and Pat Parsells, runners-up. Early in the year everyone looked forward to Senior Play tryouts. A large number turned out and in order to enable more seniors to par- ticipate, two casts were selected. On March 15 and 14, we presented our play, Molfaer Ii' A Frerfmzarz, which we will long remember. The casts performed admirably and everyone was pleased with its success. Along about this time we were becoming quite excited about our forthcoming Wfashington trip. With great anticipation we signed up for our rooms and busses. Our strenuous efforts of the past four years were rewarded by the four day tour of our nation's capital. A few of the highlights were the tour of the Skyline Caverns and the newly decorated XX'hite House. After these exciting days we returned home co recuperate. When june came we realized that our goal was nearing. We had spent many days in preparing ourselves for these closing events, Bac- calaureate Sunday, Class Night, and Graduation. We appreciate the efforts throughout the year of our new principal, Mr. justin Hess. And so we bid farewell to Our Four Years at P.H.S. , ' X D ., K 4 , xl' 1 N 5' - . .
