XX As our high school days are coming to a close, we look back over the past and recall what are only memories now. We started four glorious years df high school when we entered P. H. S. as twenty-eight green Freshmen. We chose as our president, Dewayne Blevins, vice-president, Lynda Farley, secretary, Betty Hoover, and treasurer, Robert Baugh. With Mrs, Forsyth as our sponsor, we had a wonderful year. - As to our efforts in contests, we with the Juniors, won the magazine contest and were honored during the first semester at an all-school party. We selected Loren Cox and Betty Hoover as our Hill- top King and Queen candidates, Mary Wood and Billy Murphy were our Carnival Royalty contestants. ,' Although we lost both contests, we can be accredited with making it more difficult for those , , who did win. L By our Sophomore year we were acquainted more with high school and started the year in high I ' spirits. We elected as our class officers: Robert Baugh, presidentg Judy Wheelock, vice-presidentg I - Beth Bradley, secretaryg and Dewayne Blevins, treasurer. Mr. Washlet and Miss Miller, our class sponsors, guided us through the various school activities. ti' A . J' I I E ill i . r lj , i 5 i K 1 Our first contest was the magazine contest. Although we were defeated by the Freshmen, we ' like to think we gave them a good run. I For Hilltop King and Queen candidates, we elected Charles Bishop and Beth Bradley, Dewayne Blevins and Dixie Bradley were our Carnival candidates. .ix , As Juniors, we started the year with a determination to have a successful year. We elected as X our class officers: Robert Stevanus, president, Jim Hewitt, vice-presidentg Dewayne Blevins, secretary, and Richard Cox, treasurer. Our sponsors this year were Miss Yencic and Mrs. Forsyth. The Junior Play The Honeymoon is Over under the direction of Miss Miller was very success- ful, We did not win the Carnival, but we were still proud of our candidates, Judy Wheelock and Robert Baugh. We won the race for Hilltopg and the Junior candidates, Ginger Foster and Gary Stone, were i crowned as Hilltop King and Queen, i . I I The Junior-Senior Banquet with the theme, Sweethearts on Parade, was the highlight of the i Junior year. i 1 X Now, we are Seniors. We chose as our class officers: Lynda Farley, presidentg Dewayne Blevins, , vice-president,Loren Cox, secretary, and Robert Baugh, treasurer. I left Pleasanton May 30, correction, that was Sunday, I left May 31, 1960. At 6 a. m., lservlced up my jet propelled, steamlined pogo stick at Coburn's Service Station, formerly Weller's, and because of the Importance of the trip, I was personally taken care of by the owner, Ginger Coburn, formerly Ginger Foster. Thirteen leaps further up the street, I had a close shave -- in Gary's Barber Shop. owned and operated by Gary Stone, but he wasn't there, he was home trying to raise his fallen arches. Just a few leaps out of town, I passed the Registered Termite Farm that is the property of Margaret Scott. I understand she has a pretty good business too. The traffic got thicker as I neared Kansas City, and Isaw Richard Cox fly by me in his atomic powered Ford with dual straights. He never did drive under ninety anyway. It got pretty hot so I stopped off at Judy's and Bob's home in the suburbs of the big city. Bob is a big Wheel at General Motors now, I understand. I took off again and barrelled right down 12th street. I was forced to stop, however, because a gigantic neon sign shouting Johnson's Pool Room , owned and operated by Kenneth Johnson, blinded me. Inside l found Gary Carpenter, just practicing, though he still holds the title of Wor1d's Champion Snooker Player. After a little chat with James Musgraves, who is doing quite all right for himself fwith two Cadillac convertibles, one with gold insets and the other with a television receiverp. I went stepping down to the Club '50' and found Margie Hayes singing her old favorites Blue Suede Shoes and Singing the B1ues . I had free lodging for the night at the Cox Hotel, formerly the Muchlebach, run by none other than Loretta and Loren. I thought they had improved the hotel a lot. After a long and sad parting with my old pals, Iheaded for New York. On t.he wayl stopped to visit Opal Spratt who lives on a hugh chicken ranch in the Ozarks. ln a vaudeville act in Illinois, I saw Buford Purdy in a strong-man act. In his act were three African Pygr11i2S: Geneva sent them to him, she's a missionary in Africa. East side, West side, all 'round the town -- Yep, New York and I found Beth Bradley performing at the Met -- and on her off nights at Galbraith's saloon, run by Gayla Galbraith on42nd Street. Boardwalkin Atlantic City -- umnnnhummmmmmm. Home of the Miss American Contest -- Rose Mundell was one of the top contestants this last year. I stopped for a short while in Mary- land to talk to Dewayne Blevins, who is running on the Republican ticket for Senator there. He finds he has made a very good choice by switching from Democrat to Republican. Isaw the new Hadacol plant being erected in New Hampshire by Wesley Rittinghouse, owner of the company and a steady user of the product. Wishing to keep my usual well-groomed presentable look, I went into Betty Hoover's Beauty Shop and had my toenails manicured. On another stop coming toward home, I saw Lynda Farley who is a famous movie star now and goes under the name of Tallulah Turnbull. Robert Joe Baugh now owns a 25,000 acre ranch in Nevada and was on his way to a Ranchmen's convention when I saw him. Ihad hardly begun my travels again when I saw a sign advertising CharIie's Hereford Ranch owned by Charlie Bishop. Charlie is a wealthy rancher and in his spare time is a Hell Driver in the races. Yep! he's still driving his old Sl Chevy. Dixie Bradley is happily settled in a trailer in Texas. By the way, the kids are doing fine. Mary Alice Wood is Professor of Nutrition at New York University and Patty McLaughlin is librarian there. I had worked up quite an appetite by then, so I went into the Greasy Spoon , Joan Staton's famous restaurant. I had a turkey dinner and have never felt the same since. Finally I headed my pogo stick towards home with a satisfied mind, knowing that my graduation class was a success. Qfivg A UN,0nmoff1cf,q,. H. S. Pleasanton High School Pleasanton, Kansas Dear Student Body 81 Readers: The schoolyear of 1956-'57 is rapidly coming to a close. How quickly time flys when one is in High School! Soon all the class parties, football SL basket- ballgames, coronations, semesterexams, and daily assignments will be nothing but dear memories. We hope that we have captured all the highlights of the year in the pages of this annual, the Hilltop. Several changes have been made which we think are for the improvement of the annual. Many of the deadlines we have met and the achievements we have rnade would not have been possible without the help of the whole annual staff and sponsor. We wish to thank everyone for their fine co-operation and excellent work.
