This was followed by the traditional oicnic on the Academy Camnus. PLACE: Aboard a Yacht on the Dead Sea. Margaret Wilhelmina Theresa Johanna Unruh, million- aire owner of the HUnruh Model Agencyu is on an extended cruise in order to regain her health after a nervous breakdown. One day, while Margaret was sitting on the deck, beautiful strains of HMoney Is the Root of All Evilu came to her ears. They were being sung by the marvel- lous baritone voice belonging to a stout man, Leon Bawin- kel, distinguished Metronolitan Opera Star. Suddenly, Margaret heard a loud groan. She went aft to investigate and discovered a man suffering from hunger and want. She discovered that he had once been the rich- est man in the world but had now lost everything. At first, she d1dn't recognize him, but soon she found out it was one of her classmates, Chester Freese. She was so shocked that she fainted, She awoke an hour later to find the tall, slim mechanic, Nathan Achtermann, bending over her. His youthful ambition had been to be a doctor, but it had never been fulfilled. While Margaret was wandering around the deck, she heard a tremendous noise which sounded like the breaking of dishes. She ran to the galley to investigate, but stooped suddenly when she was met by blinding smoke. Momentarlly, she saw a man emerge from the smoke, crying, WI burned the chickenln She was so startled to find the face beneath all the dirt belonging to Bob Roos, the new cook, that she screamed. This brought the rest of the party, on board ship, running. After everything was cleared, they all went on deck and enjoyed the rest of the trio, talking over all the old times, especially the years spent at P.P.A. ..-o..- I ,X ,N XX-1 Xl! .5 I 1:3 4 X X 41 fx! j ' 1 - V 4 , ,, .5 if .J - .-. This places the Freshmen at the mercy of the Seniors. This year there was a special in- itiation day when the members of the class had to dress up in various costumes. There was also a period of two weeks when we were ordered to wear the usual 'green bonnets' while on the campus. This got to be a chore. October 51, 1947, the class invited the students and the faculty to a Halloween Party, February 19, 1948, the class sponsored a Basket Social for the students of P. P. A. and the public. M U5 IC The Music Festival was held April 28, 1948, at Dakota. A new school, Durand, was represented at the fes- tival for the first time. This helped to make a larger group. The other schools represented were from Orange- ville, Lena, Dakota, Pearl City, Winslow and German Valley After practicing all morning we were all very glad to eat the delicious barbecues, that were served in the Home Economics room of the Dakota High School. The afternoon was spent in leisure for us, since only bands practiced. The evening meal was served by the women of the Methodist Church. We were very pleased to see the large crowd that arrived for the evening program. The vocal portion of the program was as follows: Girls' Chorus: Where Willows Bend, The Angelus, The Lost Chord. Boys' Chorus: Anchors Aweigh, The Builders. Mixed Chorus : The Hiking Song, Now the Day Is Over, and the Battle Hymn of the Republic. Our conductor, Ernest Siemans, of Freeport, and the beautiful weather, helped to make the day a very pleasant one. Other vocal groups that were active on the campus this year wereg a Girls' Trio, composed of Lois Borchers, Ruby Fuls and Louise Roos, and a special Mixed Chorus, in which the following students participated-- Soprano Alto Baritone Betty Stykel Beulah Bawinkel Harold Denekas Dorothy Diddens Clara Kampman Lowell Boomgarden Henr1Etta Smit Ei my Mustert Nathan Achtermann Laura Eckhoff Gezlikgidlne Juergens Robert Plock Lois Borchers -9 ga dana Robert Roos Margaret Unruh 'i ,5?B3 ,IEI Fulsx Roland Poppen Mary Eckhoff jiggkk uise Roos Accompanist. f1:5E?iiF1I'ifsis-:if fn i '11'2:i33i21s f n saggy, jg .
