The above is the defination of music. Here at P.H.H.S. we are proud of music. I should venture a guess that 655 of the students in High School take up some form of music. There 1sn't much choice only singing, Orchestra and Band. - ' Let us take singing first. In this class there are 66 students that mske up the chorus. From the chorus there are a few subdivi- sions. For the girls we find a Glee Club and an Octet. The members of the Octet are Fayma miller, Me Hill, Alyce Gilpin, Barbara White, Mable Reinhart, Fern Case. Imolu Case and mlnora Morrison. During the year of 1941 and 1942, the girls have sung acjserious places. They have sung at the United Erethern Church of Bobo, 'Fermer's lnstutite, there at the School G m.Dand for the Assembly, o The boys have good voices also. They have an Octet and a Quartet. The'names of the Octet are James Myers, Burvil tatkins, Franklin hoes, Johnnie haltke, Maurice Teeple, Bicmsrd sveregg, donald Stevens and Donald Cottrell. The Quartet is composed of James Myers, Franklin Ross, Donald stevens and hicherd nverett. The boys have sung at more places th n have the girls, the'places they have attended are, the United Erethern end Methodist Churches of Bobo, and for the Assembly. Dther branches of tha Chorus are, the Mixed Quartet and Lixed Glee Club. Those in the Mixed Quartet are, Fayma Miller, Franklin ness, Slnora Lu Morrison and Richard Everett. This group of singers can really make music sound like music. The Mixed Quartet has sung at a few places just as the Gctet's and Boy's Quartet. They have sung for, assembly Farmers institute, and at the .Calvary Bxanlelical Church of Saint Bary's ownsh p. 3 The Mixed Chorus is loing.to Berne this year as they have for the lest three years to sing in the Easter Cantets. - The song is 'Christ V1ctor1us'. glabra Lu lorrison and Franklin Ross will sing s D et. Also at Berne the Mixed Quartet will sing Wlnto the hoods! Our music teacher is Irs. Velma Fortney. ' The Ann ' ' ' as o ual Music Festival was held here at the Pleasant kills Gym. this 1881. Every School in the county was repre- except Delstur, and B rno. That was our Junolr year. There were several that started in the Orchestar. The insturments that they played were the Spanish and Hawiiai Gui- tars, Hsngolins and Accordian. Not much music was made because they all were learning to play, Just a year later they sound like on Orchestra. The same is true of the Band. The first year, not much music! a year later, not bad players. Both groups played for the Farmer s Institite held February 14, 1942. The Orchestra did real good considering it their first time before a crowd. The Band had also played well but they were less frightened because they played for a few basketball games. The Instructor of the String Grchestra is Mr. A. J, Grice of Decatur. The Band Instructor is Hr. G. Zimmerman also of Decatur. Instead of having a reception, the Juniors and Seniors of 1941 took a trip to Detroit. he rode to Ft. Wayne in a school bus and from there we went to Detroit on-a train. We had two buses and drivers chartered when we got to Detroite For about an ehour and a half we drove around the city seeing the most imgort- ant placest The bus drivers would tell us about the interesting places as we came to them: . After driving around in Detroit for a while, we went to Greenwich Village, which is owned by Henry Forde ln this village we saw an old fashioned grist mill, spinning oheelsq imaser of old clocksv and many other antiques We drove back to Detroit for our dinnerf and then went back to the Village for about an hour. Another place where we went which was owned by Eenry Ford was a large museums This was really an interesting place because there was everything imaginable theree Another place of interest .was the Ford Rotunda, where everyone had their pictures take n which were later put in the caper ' From the Ford Rotunda we went to dell Island where we saw many interesting sights of natural On this island there were many squirrels running free, without any fear of peoplee hnother place which west probably the most, interesting was in alarge buildingc This building was divided into several parts. Qmong them was the aquarium, where we saw many difierent kinds of fis h andre large sealg a place where they had several kinds of flowers arranged ao- that they were very beautifulg and a third glade where they had all kinds of tropical planted which included helm trees, messes of different kinds, and many other eiantse - The next place we went which was very interesting to most of us because- we had never been there before, was Windsor, Canada. When we got there everyone went uptown in Windsor and bought some souvineren We went 'across the Detroit river and came back on the ferrya . A' ' . .. when we got back into the United States the bus drivers took us to the depot where we were to get on our traine This left us about two hours to wait for the traint During this time we ate supper and explored the cityn but didnlt get tar enough away from the depot to get lost. . On the way home 'everyone was weary and worn out. Those the did try to sleep got water thrown in their face or anything else anyone could think rot which might annoy them. We got back to Pleasant lille about ll-O'clock in the nighte Everyone soon went heme, tired from a long dey of trave. ' , ig. 4 . I , -49- 11 . Vr I 5 ' V05 il?
