1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 SPOTLIGHT 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 TRIP TO CHICAGO On April 27, l940 the Junior and Senior class spent the day in Chicago. We left Decatur at 4:20 A. M. and everyone was rather quiet until we got to Merkel where the Seniors of Markel High School shared the car with us. A few of the girls started the ball rolling by go- ing up and sitting with two Merkel boys. he stopped at Huntington to get a teacher. While ,assing Rochester we was where Cole Brother's Circus had burned. Doc, Bob, Glen and Sonny got tired sitting still so they went to the smoking car to play cards. Some of the students wondered where they had gone so they started out to find them. They passed throught several Pullman cars before they found them. Everyone was getting rather tired and hungry by the time we pulled into Chicago which was about 8:30. The tuses were waiting to show us around Chicago. The first place we went was to the Swift Meat Packing Company. We saw how they killed sheey, cows, and other animals. It took us several hours to go through it. We then went to the Science Building where you were to push buttons turn cranks and watch what would hf oen. While we were in there some got a calling for talking and laughing too loudly. By the time we were through this building everyone was hungry. Our nest stop was at the Field Museum where we ate in the caferteria. he looked around for awhile, then went to the Aquarium which as very interesting. From here we went to the Zoo where we ggw the ani- mals and one very large ape. he didn't stay long here Lecause there wasn't much to be seen. We then went to Marshall Field Company. Here we found the escalator and everyone had been riding on it. he were divided into two groups while going through the store.
