JACK JORDAN - Sponsor PRUPHE Y It feels very good to get back home again, but it was really nice getting together with all the members of the 1955 Class of P, M, H,S, You'll probably be interested to know what happened. We had a reunion at Kenny Marckel's farm, which has 1, 000 acres, stocked with 500 head of Jerseys. Kenny and his wife Bonnie fthe former Bonnie Gephartj invited the class for a get-to-gether. They served Jersey milk and steak. Carol Archer was the first to arrive with a screeching halt in her new 1965 Cadillac Super. She is now a star in Hollywood. - The next guests to arrive were Dick Bauman and Roger Foor. Both are still in the garage business at Pleasant Mills. Dick and Roger both say, It's the only way to make a good living. Next to arrive was Virginia Wolfe with a Rolls Royce, which she bought in England. Virginia almost clipped one of Marckel's prize Jerseys. However, Virginia is improv- ing in her driving. Bouncing along, in the back seat of Virginia's car, were Mary Bilderback and Marlene Ohler. Marlene owns a rolling pin factory which brings in a couple of million each year. Her chief designer for rolling pins is Mary Bilderback: Mary adds that a rolling pin makes a perfect wedding present for the bride. Oh! The poor groom. Down the road with a cloud of smoke, the grinding of tires and sliding of stones came Allen Bowen in his 1965 Chevrolet. Guess who was with him? No one but Joe Butler, and Dwight Edgell: all three are employed as toilet cleaners. Joe says it's a very profit able business and Dwight adds, It's a very clean way to make a living.' Patsy Burkhart, Patty Dague and Mary Ann Jones were next to arrive. They have all married wisely and richly. They have a life of ease, sitting under the palm trees of Florida. However, they do play tennis, and Water ski on the side. The next to appear was the former Glenda Johnson, who is now employed in a famous horse hospital which her husband owns. Her husband said, She is a good nurse with animals but not for human beings. Dee Wolfe, Leon Byer and Rodger Frey were next to arrive. They looked overjoyed when they got out of their automobile. Then they told us they had just signed a five year contract with the Ft. Wayne Zollner Pistons. Well, good for them. There was a car coming up the hill with a chug chug. We wondered what in the world was coming off. We all turned our heads to see none other than Ronnie Gephart pushing his wifefformer Ramona Gattshallj and their twelve children in their 1929 Cnevrolet. With all those mouths to feed, they slightly depend on their brother-in-law. Don Kraner and Kermit Garner were the next to appear in their Mack truck loaded to the springs with Virginia coal. We hadn't heard that Don and Kermit had decided to tak up mining industry. They both said, This load of coal, we hope, will help pay for this trip. This page sponsored by DECATUR DAILY DEMOCRAT 8 The next to appear was Ann Foor, who is now a wife of a famous doctor, She is a nurse herself, so she doesn't have to worry about his getting any crushes on other nurses, Appearing next was Rita Clouse fthe former Rita Ehrsamy with her husband Wayne Clouse, Wayne's father is retiring and Wayne and Rita have taken over his farm, Jim and Suzanne were the next rolling in, They are married and have a large family, four boys and three girls. They are residing near Bobo, where Jim is still milking long- horn Ayrshires, He has to have a helper so he uses all his kids to help carry milk, So far as we know the money is really rolling in, The last to arrive was Kent Von Gunten, His voice and trombone and piano playing talents together have run Liberace out of business long ago, Good-by until we meet again in 1975. We ate our dinner at the Washington National Airport, That aftemoon we visited Arlington, Alexandria and Mount Vemon, We saw the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. The seniors saw Mount Vemon, the home and burial place of America's first president, We had ample time to inspect the mansion and gardens, Returning, we stopped at the Lincoln and Jefferson Memorials, We went on the boat at 6:00 P,M, , from Baltimore, The next morning after breakfast we saw one of the greatest natural shipping harbors in the world, At 8:00 A,M, we arrived at Norfolk, Virginia, where we left our boat and boarded a special bus that took us across on the ferry, On the ferry we were allowed to go on the upper deck where we could stand and watch the water and the other boats, After westood on the deck for awhile, we went back into the bus. While we were waiting to get off the ferry, we could see the waves blowing high. That was our first glimpse of Hurricane Hazel, When we left the ferry, we made our way to the Mariner's Museum. Our tour to Jamestown had to be canceled be- cause of the hurricane. The next stop was to Williamsburg, where we ate our dinner at Williamsburg Lodge, After luncheon we had free time to spend in some of the stores, While we were shopping in the stores, the hurricane was really causing damage, breaking out windows and up-rooting trees, The storm was getting worse, We learned that we couldn't board our boat, That made all of us worried because all of our clothing and baggage were on the boat, We took the train to Richmond, Virginia, where the man in charge of our trip made arrangements for us to have our supper in a cafeteria. We were a sight when we went into the cafeteria. Some had their hair pinned up and our clothes were all wrinkled, WILLSHIRE INN HOLTHOUSE DRUG STORE Willshire Ohio Decatur, Indiana SENIOR TRIP CONTINUED After supper we made our way to the train terminal where we could board a train that would would take us back to Washington, D, C, Before train time we went to the show, After the show we went back to the station, where we soon left and were Washington bound. We arrived in Washington and boarded a bus that took us to Hotel Annapolis, where we finally got a chance to spend a very wonderful restful night. The next moming Mrs, Bodkin had to miss some of the trip while she was away claiming our things back at Baltimore, Our visits in Washington, D, C, included the Archives Building, Lincoln Museum and the White House. After luncheon at Sholl's Cafeteria we proceeded to the Washington Monument where a few seniors ventured to walk up and down instead of riding on the elevator, By the way, Washington Monument contains 1, 796 steps. It was a lot of fun to walk down, but going up took a lot more strength, Next we visited the Museum of Natural History, where we saw some wild animals that were killed by President Teddy Roosevelt, We also visited the Smithsonian Institute where many rare items can be seen, The next stop was at the National Gallery of Art, which houses a large art collection. At 4:30 we left the National Gallery of Art and headed for the Union Station. Even if Hurricane Hazel did cause us a mix-up in our tour we surely did enjoy every minute of it, The hurricane gave us a chance to sleep in a hotel and so another treat was added, Sunday aftemoon we were back home after a wonderful trip, FIRST AND LAST STOP ASHBAUCHERS' TIN SHOP Cleo Pai-mel, Established 1915 Wiltshire Ohio Decatur, Indiana wh-, ,,,., .l........, 7'. mi, 5' 5 2 S f Eg l A 4, 'm M-Hmmm - - .maux THE GHUST PARADE Absalom -------- Don Kraner Sheriff - Hiram - Rastus - Abe - - ---------JimSmith - - - - - - Ronnie Gephart Kent Von Gunten - - - - - - - Kermit Gamer Jonas ----------- Joe Butler M atild a -------SuzanneKuhn Mamie - --------- Ann Foot Anne -------- Bonnie Gephart Alec - - Ted - - - - - - - - - -Allen Bowen Kenny Marckel Abigail ------- Patsy Burkhart Billy - - Claudia - - - - - - Glenda Johnson - - - - - Ramona Gatrshall Flo ---------- Carol Archer The Pest ------MaryAnnJones Q , Q ggmmmmnnnnww 2 ', -., mtg, l ' 1 ' ' 2 1 1 B :tx nwl an 3 W 4 s by 'PSV' 5 '1 9 , YQ .
