The Class of '82 once again proved their Billiehood by taking fourth place in various events, including the Billie Olympics and the Spirit Week competition. Juniors had fun at what they did and will be remembered for their outstanding ability to bend the rules to their advantage. The club took part in many competitions involving forestry skills. The officers -of the club were very active in establishing a state-wide student forestry group. ' 513 w I 1 1 ' I ,ff Al Dotson, long-time resident of the Pleasant Hill area and member of the Pleasant Hill School Board, died January, 1981. He had been a school board member since 1972 and chairman of the board twice during this time. Mr. Dotson worked hard to provide the district with a first-class educational system. He also was in the front line of the struggle to have district employees paid fairly yet keep the cost to the taypayer within reason. Al was specifically the Senior Citizens representative on the board since he was 63 years old when he first took'office in 1972. Al Dotson moved into the Pleasant Hill area in 1946. He was the father of five childreng all of whom graduated from Pleasant Hill schools. He was one of the original volunteers of the Pleasant Hill Fire Department. Al was also involved with the Lane Education Service District as well as the Lane County School Boards Association. A1 Dotson will be missed. U 1 1 The music calendar for 1980-81, was filled with many concerts and trips. There were, of course, the seasonal concerts , but there were also some special events. Pleasant Hill again hosted the P.H. Jazz Festival with schools from all over the state. Solar Jazz and Ascensions placed first in the instrumental and vocal contests. Solar Jazz and Second Generation, led by Mike Wiggins, performed at Seaside with Solar Jazz placing second. Solar Jazz also went to Mt. Hood Community College Festival along with Ascensions and New Beginnings. Ascensions, led by Mr. Jim Steinberger, raised money throughout the year in order to take a week-long trip to Southern California in May. The girls attended a rally camp during August, '80, at Lewis 8 Clark College. They brought back four blue ribbons from competitions with all the other groups at the camp. The Rally also parti- cipated in the KASH - KSND, Coca - Cola, Valley River Center Rally Com- petition. They won se- cond place over all. At the Uni. of Oregon com- petition, the P.H. Rally placed first in stunts. This Rally squad has many happy memories of the football and basket- ball season. The Rally advisor was Ms. Chris Luehring, to whom the squad feels they owe many thanks for their success.
