Surrounded by stately pine trees, it stands as a symbol of the toil and rewards of forty years of educational endeavor. Boys and girls work together gaining knowledge and friendships, both of which will be invaluable in their future lives. Through their high school years, students gain a sense of respect and admiration for the teachers who have been so eager to help and instruct. A deep school pride is instilled in each pupil. His fine preparation is evident in the classroom where he shows exceptional ability . He displays extraordinary patience dealing with everyday classroom situations. New members were wel- comed into the club in a formal induction ceremony. The club members will attend the state Beta Convention in Asheville in the spring of 1966. Pleasant Gardens Beta Glubbers presented a program for the local radio station. The Beta Club is a service organization, and members are often called upon to assist the faculty. Among the other activities of the Future Teachers is the coronation of Miss Pleasant Gardens, a tea honoring the faculty, and College Career Day. The F.T.A. has begun anew program designed to assist the faculty, whereby members devote a portion of their time each month to helping a teacher. The Council consists of four representatives from each class. Its projects for the year ' 65-66 include the planting of shade trees on the campus, and the purchase of a wall clock for the h i g h school. Also, the Student Council sponsored a Harvest Dance in November. Members of the Council operate the public address system at all home basketball games. The Council is the link between faculty and students. Suggestions of students are solicited by members of the Council, who sift them and attempt to materialize those which will benefit the school and the students. The club has been organized under the sponsorship of Mr, Johnson, vocational teacher. The members plan community service projects such as repairing old toys for distribution among needy families at Christmas. The V.I.C. aims to develop a high quality of work in skills which are taught in the construction fields. Basically a service club, it is sponsored by Kiwanis International. The members park cars at all home basketball games. The club sponsors the school talent show in conjunction with the local chapter of Kiwanis International. A Christmas fund is maintained for the benefit of needy families in the community. The Pleasant Gardens Key Club is represented at each Kiwanis meeting . In the past two years a French folk dance team has been organized. Last spring the team performed for Canton High School and the Pleasant Gardens P.T.A. It is one of the few French folk dance teams in the state. Through the work of the Future Homemakers of America Club, thousands of young people across our nation are helped to develop their talents and abilities to their greatest capacity. Each year our chapter partici- pates in the District Rally and this year they plan to attend the State Rally in April at Raleigh. A banquet held annually honoring the mothers is one of its main social events of the year. 6RAmA ClUB In its first year of organization the Drama Club has undertaken several productions. The first is a one act farce by Donald Payton entitled The Shock of His Life . A three act drama, is planned for spring production. Among their activities are lectures by leading pro- fessional men, the annual Health Careers Confer- ence of District III, and visiting the local medical institutions. QooC) Citizen QoveRPOR s School Because of her outstanding qualities Mary Margaret Dy sail was selected for the honor ofD.A.R. Good Citizen. To be chosen the girl must possess qualities of dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism. In 1963 Governor Terry Sanford established a school for gifted students throughout North Carolina to be con- ducted at Salem College. Due to her outstanding scholastic record Mary Margaret Dysart was chosen to attend Governor ' s School in the summer of 1965. miss hi miss Lillian Trexler was elected to attend an annual session at Winthrop College designed to help young girls prepare for college . They completed the season with a record of 11 wins and 1 loss. They eliminated all competition in the tournaments to be- come county champions for the second consecutive year. Three of the six players on the first team were selected all conference for the season of 1965-66. These outstanding players were Sharon Hopper, Shirley Woody, and Patsy Huffman. Boys’ BasketBAll The Pleasant Gardens boys have played well in close conference competition. Tight games were filled with exciting moments for fans and players. Led by co-captains Harold Hollifield and Gerald Webb, the team put forth a sporting effort to capture the championship this year. The boys have exhibited ability, consistency, and sportsman- ship. They have upheld the tradition of fine basketball at Pleasant Gardens High School.
