The winning team---Its players striving for one goal, becoming one in action ---- divided in each thought, Finding each a separate glen away---bound only together by a need of varying emotions of love and understanding. This is society, this isa sports, and study, this is a school, a hope, a now and a tomor- row where we have found these together ........ DEDICHTIUH Help thy brother's foot across and lo, thine own has reached the Shore. You may hang up mottoes All over the hall, But remember the word we announce, It is not the motto that hangs on the wall But the motto you live that counts. I Mr. G. B. Dixon, at once a gentleman, and a scholar as well as a teacher of the soil, and a big brother to ambitious young men, lives such a motto. His scientific man-power workshop has increased the supply of sci- ence and engineering students from our high school to college, and to the farm, as well as to various forms of skilled labor. This courteous and considerate instructor has given us a design for liv- ing, and for making a living. This design is a grass-roots attack on the short- age of scientifically trained personnel in these fields. To this beloved teacher and friend we dedicate with fraternal affection the nineteen hundred fifty-six edition of the PIHES PHIHCIPHL MESSAGE T0 SENIORS Members of the Graduating Class, Let me leave with you my thoughts, but in the words of Carolyn Davies: To toil and to be kind To take life unafraid--- These are the chores l find. CLASS POEM wHisPERiNos or THE PINES Sons and daughters of the mountains, Sons of sweat and blood and tears, Daughters of an aching longing, . For a land as this to see, When a cry from yonder mountains Splits the splendent, setting sun, Cry from twixt these cool, green mountains Rises clear, so bold and young, A song. Oh, raise your voices To that highland pioneer, Vagabond to those who knew him, He dies, he lives, and holds his people, Clutching his mountains within one hand, Stands astride a swollen stream now, In a pungent mossed forest, whence Ascend fingers of sunlight into silent, waiting valleys, ponders, Plants his feet apart to mount The swell of Spring a-coming. Son to hater of Oppression, Born to search without abating Free air's breath, Daughters of the wanderer, ever, Of a passioned hope, a song, To mountain-homed men, as one.
