The purpose of the Letterman's Club is to athletic events. raise the standards of athletics and to make the A boy must have been awarded a letter and wearing of a letter have meaning. lt promotes participated in at least one competitive sport sound sportsmanship and assists in conducting this year to become a member ofthe club. irst junior High School n Virginia Selected To Be emonstration School 49 Plaza Junior High School has surpassed all other junior high schools in our state by being the first to be awarded the title of Demonstration School . This award is presented on behalf of the President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports. To earn this distinction you must have an ath- letic program which promotes physical fitness and sportsmanship. The school must have adequate equipment and storage room for that equipment. Fa- cilities must be provided for both outside and inside activities and provision must be made to allow the physically and mentally handicapped to participate. This award is presented to a school on a yearly basis and Plaza looks forward to winning the award in the future. Mr. Del Moser, Assistant Superin- tendent of Physical Education, State Department of Education, presents flag held by Kim Brown and Barry Davis to Mr. Owens and Mr. Sterling. lt is a proud moment for all Trojans.

Sue Cassani, Lou Ann McDougald lxaryn Newcome Terri Rocheleau Heidi Hicks Yea-a-a Plaza! The Plaza Cheerleaders cheered the Plaza teams in victory and defeat. Their main goal was to raise school spirit and support for the teams and they did this by their presence at all athletic contests it was possible to attend and participation in school pep rallies. They sponsored the first dance of the school year in order to raise funds to purchase new uniforms and spent a lot oftime selling tickets and making posters and pep banners. Oops! The girls competed in five events: Floor Exercise. Tumbling. Vaulting. Balance Beam. and Uneven Bars. Plaza was host to Virginia Beach's first city junior high school gymnastics tournament in which Plaza took first place. At left.
