Lloyd Hodges fights for the extra gain in yardage against Kempsville Junior. 41 i i l Little Bull Hodges Selected As Most Valuable Player The Plaza Trojans opened their sec- ond season on the gridiron on homeground. This was a big event because this was the first year that Plaza has been able to host a team at home. The Trojan football team was led to a successful 4-2 record by Co- Captains, Kim Brown and Scott Layden. The season closed with a 28-6 victo- ry over the Princess Anne Cavaliers at Homecoming. Karyn Newcome was crowned Plaza's first Homecoming Queen. The football awards banquet was held in December at the school cafete- ria. Kim Brown won the award for Outstanding Back , Scott Layden was selected for Outstanding Lineman , and Little Bull Lloyd Hodges was chosen as the Trojans' Most Valuable Player.

Plaza Cagers Expand Schedule To Fourteen Games The Trojan basketball team completed a successful season with a 12-4 record. The Trojans established several school records during the season including. as a team: the most points scored in one game, 104 vs. Norfolk Christiang the most rebounds in one game, 34 vs. Virginia Beachg most assists in one game, 14 vs Norfolk Christian: the most points scored on an average per game, 69.81 the least points allowed to be scored against Plaza. -l5.5g the most games won in one season, 121 and using all these talents the Trojans ended the season by taking second place in the All-City Junior High School Tournament. Sonny Blackmon and Keith Etheridge made the 1971 All-Tournament Team and an Honor- able Mention went to Kim Brown.
