I :mir WPJH Screens Latest Educational TV Shows Plaza Junior High is very fortunate to have their own television station. This has been ol great help to the teachers as well as the students. The teachers have used these facilities to tape presentations ahead of time and it has also been used to tape visiting lecturers and specialists in various fields. The students have enjoyed it also. Students working on the TV crew learn all about the production of a program. English students have used this facility to see themselves perform and to evaluate their performance. The TV crew has also helped a great deal hy filming athletic events. Counselors Help i Guide The Way The Guidance Department plays an important part in the life of the student. They offer counseling in educational and vocational areas and seek to assist with any emotional or social problems students may be facing. They help each student plan a tentative five year program leading toward high school gradu- Wllllarrf Fitzgerald MISS Elllabelh ation and a vocational field of his choice. This Director Predmore past year they administered the Differential - Aptitude Test to the eighth grade and conducted pre-registration for incoming seventh graders as well as eighth graders and ninth graders. In October they sponsored a Career Fair and brought many members of the Tidewater Busi- ness Community to Plaza to speak on a wide range of vocational fields. Each student had the opportunity to visit at least three ofthese speak- ers and take pan in a following discussion. The Guidance Team also planned a TV program. Jobs In the 70's. Group discussions, sponsored by Guidance, about topics like, Values for Teenagers and Who Am I? offer students the chance to get Mrs, Et-hel Smith Miss Irma Vinson together and work out some of their social problems. Guidance also works with parents and tries to help them understand their child and answer any questions they may have about academic progress, social adjustment. or vocational guid- ance. Students Explore World of Space At Plaza Planetarium Herbert D. Teuscher Planetarium Director The Planetarium is an instrument of many and varied uses as an educational facility. It is limited only by the imagination of those who employ the planetarium as a teaching device. It is used to explain more thoroughly concepts that cannot be adequately explained in the classroom. This facility not only serves as a science supplement for students but adults and others in the community are able to witness pro- grams and demonstrations which are free and open to the public. The primary objective ofthe planetarium will be to make programs educa- tionally stimulating and informative. The hostesses aid with public programs by seating the guests. passing out handbills. and explaining the instruments. The planetarium assistants help with clerical work. run errands. and set up the machines. Jackie Boyette and Sandy Riggs are checking the celestial globe before a class of children arrive. V V E .
