Mr. Johnson was raised in Pawnee City, Nebraska. He attended Nebraska Wesleyan where he received his Bachelor of Science degree. He began his teaching career in Oxford, Nebraska where he taught for 2 years, after which he attended the University of Nebraska where he was awarded his Master's Degree. .He then taught and coached for one year at Nebraska Wesleyan. In 1962, the Johnsons moved to Plattsmouth and he began his teaching career in the Plattsmouth Public School System that Fall. He taught Modem Prob- lems, Psychology, Driver's Education, and coached Basketball and Golf. Mr. Johnson and his wife Mary have three sons, Greg, Jeff, and Kurt. Mr. Johnson enjoyed teaching school and his genuine interest in the students as individuals showed through in his work. Much as we hate to see Mr. Johnson leave, we wish him the best of luck in his new career as an Insurance and Real Estate salesman. The girls were divided into teams, which were dubbed the Braggers and the Freeburgers. They were coached by Mr. Freeburg, Mr. Caver- zagie, Mr. Bragg, and Mr. Nash. Spirit was boosted by the Home- coming bonfire and Snake Dance. Homecoming '68 was highlighted by the crowning of Queen Debbie Wallace and King Ted Grosshans. Chosen by the popular vote of the student body, these two reigned proudly over the Homecoming Festivities. The Reverend Gene Swim of the First Baptist Church in Plattsmouth, gave the Invocation. Sophomore Prom servers, dressed in brightly colored grass skirts and loins, served the Juniors, Seniors, members of the faculty, and guests. The menu consisted of grapefruit juice, ham, potatoes, corn, green salad, milk, and for dessert, cake. Junior Class president, Kevin Case, welcomed everyone to the Junior-Senior Banquet and introduced the guests at the head table. At this time, Mr. and Mrs. Larry Nienhueser, Junior Class sponsors, were pre- sented with a thank-you gift from the Juniors. After the introductions were completed, Rob Hackwith, Senior Class president; thanked the Junior class for their efforts, on behalf of the Senior Class. A special thank-you went to Mr. Dale Strobel, PHS counselor, for his help and understanding this year at PHS. Next on the program was the night's entertainment. The Sophomore Prom servers performed the tradi- tional Hawaiian, tinikling dance. The guest speaker for the evening was Mr. Dennis Jackson, the head of Operation Bridge in Omaha and counselor at West Side High School in Omaha. His talk was entitled Where it is . . . Where you're going. 125 126 HAWAIIAN SUNSET Saturday, May 17, the Jr. class of 1970 pre- sented the Seniors with their Prom. A beautiful sunset threw its rays over the transformed gym. Over 200 people danced to the music of the Dick Cavich band. Past royalty, Mary Peterson and Greg More- head, were on hand to crown the new king and queen, Tom Welstead and Marge Water- man.
