1967 Plattonian Presents Devil Action ’67 Voices chattering Lockers banging The excitement of a new year. These initiated last September’s action at P. H. S. With a Kick-Off to Autumn Faces glowed with victory pride. Winter glistened with The Snow Ball”; Spring blossomed with the beauty of Prom. Beyond these frivolities we met Harvey , learned of The Glass Menagerie and shared in the musical English action of My Fair Lady . During these happenings we learned to understand sportsmanship. As Devil guys gave their determination and ability, we backed them with our spirit and pep--win or lose. Yes, the P. H. S. halls also echoed with music from concerts and the din of exuberant rallies. These occurrences are all part of what we call action--DEVIL ACTION--that surge of spirit and determination, demonstrated by all, and practiced by the seniors who taught us to use that power and develop it into the action of leaders. Yes, memories will die and P. H. S. will change, but that DEVIL ACTION will continue to live--and grow. That DEVIL ACTION of '67 will continue to hover in the halls. . . Voices will chatter Lockers will bang.. . Nebraska Plattsmouth High, Plattsmouth, Head cheerleader, Sonjia Osthus, leads spirited P. H. S. It might well appear to some that instruction ends in the classroom, but let us ever be mindful that true education continues through life. Plan your time and life to the point that you know without question that you are the Master of your fate and soul. Superintendent The 1966-67 School Board, LEFT TO RIGHT, is: Albert M. Hansen R. W. Bernhardt Robert W. Hirz Russell H. Nielson Boyd Linder Ralph Hild Mortimer Adler, a leading educator, defined formal education as a process by which material passes from the notebook of the teacher to the notebook of the pupil, without passing through the head of either. Education is not a myriad of ideas, but instead it is an attitude and a continuing func - tion. The educated person is that person who functions at his full potential within the society and world he resides. My every best personal wish to each member of the class of 1967—you have just fin- ished the first large step toward being educated—seek you well your full potential. Freshmen almost have to climb into their lockers when students muddle through the halls between classes. 17 The End And The Beginning With the beginning of the school term came anxiety and excitement among the seniors of M67 , for this was their last year at P. H. S. Four years of hard practice and determination paid off well at Homecoming as the Devils defeated Auburn with a score of 20-14. Kickoff To Autumn was the theme which highlighted the dance. Dan Bishop and Linda Ford reigned as King and Queen of the Homecoming Dance. In a few short weeks preceding the holiday season, the Annual Staff sponsored the Yuletide Dance. King John Aschenbrenner and Queen Elaine Sharp were selected as this year's royalty for the Snow Ball . As spring approached, we found the seniors busy at work preparing The Glass Menagerie which was presented April 28 and 29. With only a few weeks of school left, the juniors were hard at work with plans for our 1967 Junior-Senior Prom which was held May 6. Terry Glup and Nancy Hopkins were crowned King and Queen to reign in Fantasia of the Deep . On May 8 the senior government students journeyed to Lincoln where they toured the State Legislature at the Capitol and also the Nebraska State Penal Complex. It was with mixed emotions that the seniors attired themselves in the traditional blue and white caps and gowns for the Baccalaureate service which was May 21. On the evening of May 26, one hundred and eleven graduates lined the hill in front of P.H. S. to begin the pro- cession to the athletic field where awaited the hoped-for goal of each—their diplomas. With a final walk up high school hill, we realized that our days at P.H.S. had come to a close. Each of us carry the memories of the past four years and our many treasured friends with us on into the future. Again we are reminded of our class motto: Believe in three faiths--Faith in God, yourself, and others. 18 JESSIE WHALEN SPONSOR CLASS MOTTO: Believe in three faiths: Faith in God, Yourself, and Others. This is the second year at PHS for the members of the 'Class of 69' and they filled it by taking part in sports, band, chorus, and other various clubs. They are looking forward to becoming ''upperclassmen” next year and we know they will enjoy their next two years at PHS as much as they did their first two years. This was quite an eventful first year for the 'Class of 70’. They won the spirit jug”at the pep-rallies more times then the Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors would like to admit and showed they could hold their own among the students of PHS. The empty seats are few and far in between at pep-rallies. The Junior boys turned out in full force for the Homecoming game snake dance. The coaches and members of the team take turns talking at the pep rallies; it isn't as easy as it looks. Coach Beeson and Bill Ri- shel will testify. Chuck Ault, Lloyd Fitch, Gary Way, and Coach McKnight look on as a teammate talks at a rally. Here is a future basketball star for P. H. S. Well, at least Mr. Johnson thinks so. Coach McKnight was hurt in the line of duty, on the basketball court. Even the coaches can be casualties at P. H. Susie is a girl who is al- ways on her toes, even when she is twirling! The grown-ups all got a chance to show their talent on the football, basketball, track, and wrestling teams; and of course, at being majorettes and cheerleaders. When your sides were sore from laughing, as they were most of the time, the musical and dancing acts were really appreciated. The highlight of the whole evening came when Mr. Herweg, as Winnie Peg, was married in a charming (?) ceremony. All in all the variety show was a smashing success and plans for next year will get under way soon. As soon, that is, as this years stars recuperate. At least Mr. Herweg can sing. Musical Success— “My Fair Lady” Listen carefully Eliza, The rain in Spain stays mainly on the plain . Eliza Doolittle (Mary Svoboda), a poor Cockney flower girl, was very content with her friends in Covent Garden. Her father (Roger Brink) cared very little for anything but the nearest pub. Henry Higgins (Jay Cloidt), a dialectician and grammarian, along with his rich sidekick (John Bernhardt) stroll into Covent Garden and Eliza tries to sell them a flower. Higgins was intrigued by her Cockney accent and resolves, with Pickering’s finances, to teach her proper English. Eliza agrees to this plan and likes the idea of becoming a lady. Her father sees this as a way of obtaining money and talks Higgins out of some money in trade for his daughter. Higgins, along with the help of Mrs. Pearce (Pat Smith), his maid, transform Eliza into a lady with the correct way of talking walking and eating. Her final test comes when Higgins takes the chmchon rne 'n8 Doolittle to her to the sophisticated Embassy Ball. She makes a perfect grade by becoming an immediate success with all the guests including Higgins’ high society mother (Marcia Thun). When they return home, Eliza ex- pects a little praise, but Higgins gives her none . After this episode, for old times sake Eliza returns to Covent Garden to see her old friends. She finds her father getting ready to be married because Hig- gins had arranged for Doolittle to inherit some money and now Doolittle is a part of Middle Class Morality. She also finds Freddy Eynsford Hill (Gary Way), a boy who loves her deeply, waiting for her. The play closes as Eliza leaves her old friends and returns to Higgins house, much to Higgins' joy. 112 The wistful carefree Cockney girl left her flowers to become.. a sad but elegant Fair Lady . Mrs. Pearce wonders about Higgins' sanity after his wild display of happiness. 113 Kickoff To Autumn The Plattsmouth High Band Dance Band musically Coach Norris Hale proudly presents aided in making the Homecoming Dance a success. For the Seniors, Commencement signifies the close of another chapter in their lives. They have become a part of the future; high school, a part of the past, coming to life again whenever these pages stir the memories that each individual treasures deep within himself. For others, the coming year will bring new hopes, new adventures, and eventually, new memories. The school year of 1966-1967 was a full year - full of football, homecoming, class plays, wrestling, basketball, dances, spring sports, the beautiful prom, and then - - the final step - Commencement.
