elnoried 0 fAe 1948 ganquef On the balmy, spring evening of April 29, l9l+8, we seniors realized as the banquet hour drew closer that though this was one of the happiest occasions of our senior year and the traditional climax of all our social events, it was also a sad reminder that we were leaving dear old P. H. S. forever. However, as the evening drew to a close all of us seniors felt a deep appreciation towards the Juniors and all those who helped give us such a wonderful send off It was one 'farewell we won't soon forget Just to show how impressed we really were, we would like to 1te a few last words about the banquet for the l9b9 nGleam you won't forget! As the hands of the clock finally reached seven thirty slowly wandered into the old familiar high school gym A negro butler Kenneth Rice received us at the door As we were ushered through the ivy covered trellis, we felt as if we were walking into a beautiful plcture The host and hostess Phillips Cox and Nancy Lawler, acting as Mr and Mrs George Washington, cordially welcomed us 1nto the glowing atmosphere of their old plantation Pickanin 1n1es serenaded us with songs of the South everywhere, friendli ness and hospltality characteristics so well known among the south ern people were extended to us As a delicious southern style dinner was served by the maids Mary Beth Fries on behalf of the Juniors and the faculty gave us a warm welcome to the banquet and wished all of us the best of suc cess and happiness in the comlng years even as we had been success ful during our high school years Charles Clute responding thanked the Junior class and asked that they carry on the standards which we had established for the honor and glory of P H S The senior w1ll and class prohecy were then read by Jo Ann Golden and Keith Hartell As 12 30 o'clock rolled around, everyone reluctantly left the beautiful surroundings of the old plantation especially us seniors who were being entertained as students of P H S for the last time Thanks for the memories juniors!
