CLASS HISTORY We set our ideals on this goal as Seniors in the year 1947, when most of us first en- tered the first grade. Very eager to see what each year would bring, we returned from our summer vacations to meet a new and wonderful person who was to work with us the next nine months. Our elementary years seemed as passing fads because of the march of time. Some of the teachers responsible for preparing us for our goal as Seniors were: Mrs. E. C. Smith, Mrs. E. B. Brown, Mrs. D. Springs, Mrs. W. P. Owens, Mrs. M. H. Dean, Mrs. J. R. lsler, Miss N. I. Cowan, Mrs. S. Springs, Mr. H. E. Reeder, Mrs. Sim- mons and Mr. A. H. Hethington. By the time we reached the eighth grade, our class was greatly increased by students transferring from Woodland Elementary School. What a wonderful time we have had these last four years at Plato Price High School! As high school students, each year has brought something new. Now we are preparing to close this chapter of our life, but looking back, there 'are many things we shall long re- member. 'We entered high school September 3, 1955. What a wonderful day that was, for now many things we had dreamed about, were now reality. We were excited about changing classes, and kept wonderingwhetherwe would get in our right places. Acting as overjoyed first graders coming to school for the first time, we were so happy, but we really were, in a sense, first graders, first graders of high school. Our homeroom teacher was Miss W. E. Powell. We had an enrollment of82 students. Our class officers were: President- Norvelle Cureton, Vice-President-Johnny Wright, Secretary-Barbara Brown, Assistant Secretary-Johnny Rogers, and Treasurer-Bessie Lee Waddell. We were active in many activities such as basketball, band, glee club, N.H.A., and Y-Teens. The school year ended with each of us feeling well pleased with ourselves and looking forward to being Sophomores the next year. We entered the tenth grade with new goals and ideals, many of us having already chosen our future careers. Our homeroom teacher was the late Mrs. E. L. Russell who was also eager for all to get ahead. Our enrollment was 64 students. The class officers were: President-Blandena Kearns, Vice-President-Eva Mae Bowman, Secretary-Graham Watt, Assistant Secretary-Barbara Brown, and Treasurer-Bessie Lee Waddell. By now we were well on our way becoming recognized citizens of P.P.H.S. Again we took part in the different extra curricular activities offered by the school. Striving hardto become Juniors,we finally made it with 46 students. Mr. A. H. Heth- ington was our homeroom teacher. Our class officers were: President-Grady Jamison, Vice-President-Blandena Kears, Secretary-Betty Torrence, Assistant Secretary-Roy Rogers and Treasurer-Bernice Nance. We were excited about the Junior-Senior Prom and even more excitedwhenwe found that it was going to be held at the Park Center. This year the Juniors were dominating the school and all the activities. Active inbasketball were: Sarah McCullough, Harriett McLaughlin, Maezetta Campbell, Lena Cathcart, Mary Waddell, George Willams, Graham Watt, Ulysses Phifer, Eddie Caldwell and Robert Cole- man. About ten juniors served as patrol members with Bessie Waddell as Sergeant and Bernice Nance as Treasurer. The choir was made up primarily of the Juniors. The en- tire female section was from the eleventh grade. The girls belonged to the Y-Teens and N.H.A. also. Now we realized that we had almost reached the end of this chapter. We entered the senior class with 41 students and Miss W. E. Powell as advisor. At the beginning of the year we decided to present the student body with a yearbook. We thought of this with the knowledge that it would be the first annual of Plato Price High School. Those chosen to lead our class were: President-Betty Torrence, Vice-President-Barbara Brown, Secre- tary-Delores Dye, Assistant Secretary-Bernice Nance and Treasurer-Nancy McDonald. We made several trips during the year, among them were the trip to Greensboro, North Carolina. We visited Carver College and were enlightened on the offerings of Carver College. We have had many wonderful and exciting moments to remember during the past four years as high school students. As we have preparedto fulfill our aims and ambitions, we shall always remember our knowledge gained at Plato Price High School. I6
