D. lVlrs, Fishback's students read and illustrated children's stories. Overhead projectors dominated the wide usage of audio-visual materials. Also used were filmstrips, motion pictures and many other helpful visual media. Included in the four years of required Eng- lish was a semester elective program for seniors. Underclassmen received a comprehensive study of various language skills to fulfill their future academic necessities.

These were words spoken in the foreign languages to help stu- dents understand such languages as French, Spanish, Latin and German. The department offered a five- year study of Spanish and French while German and Latin could be taken for four years. In the classroom the teacher helped the student learn the correct pronunciation of words through the use of repetition drills. Foreign culture was also taught by contrasting different social groups. The language lab was used as a reinforcement mechanism of dialogues learned previously in the classroom. Further study and understanding of the country and its people was exposed through the foreign language clubs. A. Speech student deliversarnernorable message. B.
