marginal defeat allo wed Edison to capture state title D. F . Plantation's varsity football squad had a lot to be proud of: nine all-county team players, a perfect 10-0 season, a first defeat over Dillard and a shot at the state championship title against Edison. The Colonels went into the playoff game against Edison as marginal underdogs, as they had been in many regular season games. The game was close all the way with few mistakes made by either team, as well over 10,000 people looked on. Edison scored first on a 15-yard run to make it 7-0. Shortly following, the Colonels were on the scoreboard as Craig Smith dove two yards for a touchdown and the extra point tied it 7-7. Plantation held on until little time was left in the game when an Edison fake punt broke loose for a touchdown as Edison went on to win 14-7 over the BCAC title holder, Plantation High School. sv M E. football team gained knowledge experience, and pride The 1971 Junior Varsity Football team created both good and poor moments for themselves. They fought hard time and time again, always working for a victory. They bounced back from defeat to achieve victory and molded into a fine team as the season progressed. The squad came back to a split 4-4 season after a tough start. The team elected Kelly Hughesg a hard running fullback, as the most valuable player. His consistent performance was evident all throughoutthe year. Bobby Cusick and Don Emerick were elected team captains. The lead- ership of these two was encouraging to the team during the entire season. Ji-- I PNK .. g . n 35.2 Si TN.. G.
