Plantation's varsity football squad had a lot to be proud of: nine all-county team players, a perfect 10-0 season, a first defeat over Dillard and a shot at the state championship title against Edison. The Colonels went into the playoff game against Edison as marginal underdogs, as they had been in many regular season games. The game was close all the way with few mistakes made by either team, as well over 10,000 people looked on. Edison scored first on a 15-yard run to make it 7-0. Shortly following, the Colonels were on the scoreboard as Craig Smith dove two yards for a touchdown and the extra point tied it 7-7. Plantation held on until little time was left in the game when an Edison fake punt broke loose for a touchdown as Edison went on to win 14-7 over the BCAC title holder, Plantation High School. sv M E.
