We're number one was the cry heard from the Plantation stands. For the first time in history the Colonels concluded their season with a perfect mark of 10 and O, with decisive victories over Stranahan, Ft. Lauderdale, and Nova. Never before had the team worked so hard to win the county championship. Many players from both the offense and the defense received honors for their supreme effort on the field. Yes, 1971, the year the Colonels went to the state playoffs.
