Varsity Cheerleaders support Colonels with enthusiasm 'fi ss? Q, i B. The 1971 Varsity Cheerleaders do a lot of work behind the scenes that is relatively unknown to the student body. In the summer, they spent a week at the American Cheerleaders Associaa tion camp, preparing for the upcoming year of cheering. Besides attending football, basketball, baseball, cross-country, and track meets, they painted signs and presented the boys with surprises each week. They also decorated locker rooms and organized pep rallies and parades. A. Junior Jane Chatfield encourages the fans to yell. B. -- -Y - J. V. Cheerleaders support teams throughout school year The Junior Varsity and Freshman Cheerleaders worked hard during the year to build up spirit and unity in the student body. They, along with the varsity squad, were sponsored by Nlrs. S. Rogers and Nlrs. B. Chinn. The J.V. squad was selected last spring and attended ACA camp during the summer. The freshman squad was picked in the fall. Although all the signs they painted and the pep rallies they organized were primarily for their respective teams, the overall effect was a large contribution of support and spirit for the varsity teams. A. J.V. cheerleaders lVlary Lindley, Theresa Smades, Joy Gravett, Stacy Dowler, Tonya Snyder, co-captain Joy Griffith and captain Pat Stanton lead the fans in a cheer. B. Building up spirit and enthusiasm at a game, sopho- mores Joy Gravett, Debbie Baker and Tonya Snyder cheer for the team. C. Co-captain Joy Griffith leads the stands in a chant. D.
