A'Cappella choir is made up of students who want to study for fine interpretation of mixed chorus music and are willing to put in the necessary time to attain it. This year, during the noon hour, rehearsals have been two or three days a week. Highlight of the year was the Fox Valley Festival in Elgin, April 25, Other engagements were a concert at the Latter Day Saint Church, Easter concert at he Baptist Church, and participation with other high schools inthe county promotion exercises late in May. ' The music classes meet twice weekly and concentrate on three part gir1's arrangements and three or four part boy's arrangements and appreciation of the great music available by radio and recordings as well as concerts in large cities. Some of the students attended a ballet per- formance in Chicago last fall in place of the usual opera. E2 nzco 0n November 20, the A'Cappella, assisted by the music classes, pro-, sented the Operetta, Rio Rico . , The Operetta tells the storyoi treasure hunters on a tropical island and of their adventures with pirates who are hunting the same treasure. The cast was made up of DuWayne Peterson, financier of trip: Lorraine Prickett, his debutante daughter, Marple Trotter, Aunt Julia3George Hotho, Professor Molecule who has invented a gadget for hunting treasureg Harold Stein, Marilyn Lord, Helene Wildermuth, Ed Srnith, Ronnie Wilhelm --all college friends of Lorraine, Marcia Gundersen, the colored cook: choruses and dances. . dd 'Sa-I go of Mm ga 55 Ev V3 . Usfng a new T formation, the Plano grfdders, under Coach sell, were able to makeagood showing this year. The record was 2 wfns, 1 tfe, and 4 losses. Plano successfully started their season at Maxon and through the rest of the games no matter how discouraged, they never gave up. The team had 4 inexperienced backffeld men and only 4 experienced line men. Don Wallis and Harold Stein were cocaptafm. Eight of the fifteen letter men this year will be on hand for the gams next year. With the return of these men and the experienced B team, we watch for great results in next year's combination. The B squad, consisting of freshmen and sophomores, piled up a record of 3 wins and 2 losses. They not only gained experience for future years but they also had a chance to show the spectators some good football. Most of these games were played on Saturday mornixgs with very few on-lockers. Those that did see the games will agree that ,some of the closest and hardest fought games of the season were played the day after the main games. BASKETBALL TEAM Standing: G. Green, mgr., j. Plano Reapers, under the leadershipof Coach Sell, finished one of their most successful seasons with 19 wins and 8 losses. This included a tie for first in the conference and second place in the Little Ten Tournament. George Hotho was elected captain. Five ,of the eight losses were lost by a total of sixteen points. The startling five con- sisted of four seniors and one sophomore. Although lacking in height, they relied on speed for their success. Yorkville .... ........ 4 4 Plano , , Geneva - - - - 33 Plano . . This year the prayer was answered for the boys by the admission of Industrial Arts. A concrete block building was erected to the south- west of the high school for this purpose. Until the first of December, when Mr. Lemon was added to the faculty, Mr. Miller taught the boys the fundamentals of shop. Soon after Mr. Lemon's arrival the boys moved into the newly completed shop, where they were divided into areas for maintainance, wood working, and mechanical drawing. In maintainance, the boys worked on benches, drawing tables, and such things needed in furnishing the shop. Learning how to use the tools and making projects such as tables and trays occupied the boys in wood working. The boys taking the drawing course were instructed in lettering, developing, and read- ing of the drawings. Shop classes were supervised by a personnel system consisting of Shop Superintendent, Safety Director and Council, Tool Foreman, Pub- lic Relations, Record Clerk, Librarian, and a f-oreman and tool clerk for each area. All of these boys chosen from the classes were under the instructor, Mr. Lemon. Next year in addition to the areas already underway, there will be work in metals and general materials, such as plastic and leather.
