For a Christmas present that year, the student body received a new high school building which since then has been the home of the Gremlins. The eighth grade year passed swiftly with brief encounters with Magazine English and Math. We came intothe ninth grade as full-fledgedhigh school students, proud of our stand- ing. That year we showed originality in our freshrnan assembly, which was a comical quiz program entitled Dr, P. U. After struggling with bandages and square knots in our first aid classes we passed to our sophomore year. , The sophomore year opened with grueling exercises under the direction of Larry Krehbiel and Katherine Krueger. The big event of that year was the class picnic spon- sored by Miss Martin and Mrs. Zimmerman. At the opening of our junior year we held a big campaign, with our candidate, J. B. Tarr, opposing the senior candidate, Harold McKel1ips, for the Student Senate Presidency. Then we turned our efforts to the Junior Play, 'Ever Since Eve. This play was suc- cessfully presented under the direction of Mrs. Ward. We used funds derived from the Class play, collectednewspapers to sell, and handled concessions at the basketball games in order to entertain the seniors at the traditional Junior-Senior Prom. The prom was held at the Broadview Hotel and was the outstanding social event of the year. We com- pleted our junior year under the sponsorship of Mrs. Wells, Mrs. London and Miss Logan. On September 13, 1948, the present Senior Class began its final year in the halls of P. H. S. under the sponsorship of Mrs. Brown and Miss Cook. The remainder of our his- tory will be told as the pages of this book unfold. 7 BETTY GAYLE ALLEN Pep Club l,Z,4, Y-Teen l,Z,4,Cab1net 4, Mixed Chorus Z,3,4g Glee Club 2, N,omtor l,2,3, Captain 3, Class Officer 3,45 Girl Stater 3g Annual Staff 4, Fifi- 5Jhell2,3,,, F1532 rf :BETTY AMMANN , Pep Club 4, Y-Teen 4, Annual Staff 4, N 17- Fifinella 4. fTransfer student, Q JANE ASHER Pep Club l,Z,3,4, Cabinet 2,35 Cheer- leader Z,3,4g Y-Teen4, Cabinet 4, Fifi- nella 1,Z,3,4g Dramatics 23 Library 3, 4g Junior Play 35 LEROY BARKER Glee Club 1,2,3g Mixed Chorus 1,Z,3,4p Fifinella Z,3. Teenagers to meet friends and classmates for an evening of recreation. Here the Gremlins dance, play ping pong and par- ticipate in the various games available. There is also a refreshment bar supervised by Mrs. George Schifferdecker where members can get a refreshing coke or ice cream. The club is under the direction of Mr. L. L. Foxx, sponsor, and a council of twelve Fifi- nella members. During the recent year the Fifinella has sponsored such activities for teen- agers as the Christmas party, the annual ping pong tournament, and a talent contest. Win- ners of the talent contest were: The Hungry Five, Jock Gillespie and Irvin Peterson. This year a new type of membership card was issued and new provisions were added to the consti- tution which are to the benefit of members. The in- creasing demand for membership in the club is being managed by the council so that all who are eligible may enjoy the good times furnished by this organiza- tion. The kitchen at the club is the source of those good Meats. Mrs. Schifferdecker's helpers are members of the club. It's fun to work there!!!! at AER l f1 'H-,,,,-lu. 'Nil The 1948-49 edition of the P.H.S. Band was the biggest and best yet. There were sixty- three instrumentalists in this years organization. From the day the uniforms were first issued to the day they were returned the band per- formed with distinction. Half time performances were given at all home football games. The band played at all home basketball games and made two trips out of towng Goddard and St. Johns of Winfield. Band Day at Wichita University and the Spring Festival were big events. There were many individual stars in the band this year who gained recognition by mem- bership in the Wichita Youth Symphony. Dwight Beckham also gained a place in the Wichita Symphony.
