geniau-.1..... F- W- -V V , . .-vw H- U.-.,..,, I Rex Speckman. vice president: Bob Hutchinson, president: Ioe Feagins, U. S. N.: ex-officio president: Lenamue Smith. secretary: Bill Showalter. treasurer. The Senior Class of 1945 took off with a crew of ninety-seven. After last year's pleasant journey, including the Junior Play and the Junior-Senior Banquet, the crew settled down to a routine flight. Our navigator, Dale Miller, kept us on course until he was replaced by Mrs. Marie Weir and Mr. Sid Moore. Our pilots were Joe Feagins, president, Bob Hutchinson, vice president, Lenamae Smith, secretary, Bill Showalter, treasurer. By the beginning of the second semester seven crewmen had transferred to the Armed Forces, and one hostess had entered the Cadet Nurses Corps. Joe Feagins of the Navy was replaced by Bob Hutchinson as president, and Rex Speckman as vice president. The routine flight was upset by a few air-pockets : namely, class rings, gowns, and announcements. Cther obstacles to be sur- mounted were class flower, white rose, class colors, purple and white, class motto, What we can't do, can't be done. In spite of all this, we stayed on the beam until we contacted our Hnal desti- nation . . . GRADUATION!

The Student Crew started on its mission of organizing the hall monitors with precision and accu- racy. Then, leaving deeds of glowing achievement behind them, they opened a new phase of improvement by supervising the assemblies and directing concessions. The chart of the Senate was submitted last year by a committee consisting of Mr. McWhirter, Mr. Williams, Miss Hollo- way, Miss Barnhart, Mrs. Shackelford, and Mr. Colvin. This document has been the flight instructions for their activities. At the annual election of the Student Senate president, the compass points to thrills, chills, and spills for all Gremlins of P. H. S. In 1943 the candidates, Neil Smart, Jr., and Don Rubendall, Sr., stood on barrels in zero weather in front of the old barracks school with Student Senate president as their target. Don Rubendall attained the honor of being the president of the first P. H. S. Senate. In 1944 the candidates for presidency paraded through the halls of the high school building and gave to the cheering Gremlins their cam- paign speeches. Sam Thompson, Jr., came out on top with Neil Smart, Sr., close behind. The commanding officers of the Senate were Mrs. Shackelford and Mr. Williams, who directed and aided these navigators: Sam Thompson, president, Neil Smart, vice president, Lenamae Smith, secretary, and Bob DeForest, treasurer . . . to FINAL COMPLETION OF THEIR MISSION.
