Gwmwlum 0MiC6 l.. Dr. Cloy S. Hobson. director: Currie Mae Scott cmd Ruby Mider, assistants The Guidance and Curriculum Office is organized to aid pupils in determining their educational and vocational objec- tives, to help teachers to plan and provide the curricular activities necessary to rea- lize those objectives, and to direct pupils and teachers to use those activities for the purposes intended. To aid pupils in determining their ob- jectives, studies are made of each individ- ual's abilities, aptitudes, interests, needs, opportunities, and social obligations. These studies include social history, medi- cal history, academic marks, test results, attendance reports, interview records, and citizenship reports. Data from these courses are assembled in a separate file for each pupil. Counselors study and inter- pret these data and discuss them with pu- pils and parents for purposes of guidance. The curriculum is planned and devel- oped jointly by the administrative, and the instructional, and the curriculum staffs. Its purpose is to direct pupils in performing the activities necessary for satisfactory living. It emphasizes two gen- eral types of development: the perfecting of the various skills and abilities necessary to carry out learning and living activities and the creating of social understandings and competence. In order to meet the needs of individ- uals, the curriculum must be flexible and adaptable. No attempt should be made to give all pupils an exactly uniform course of study. Within reasonable limits, activ- ities provided in the great body of curri- ulum materials may be selected for or by pupils according to their needs which they and the counselors have discovered. Success in an educational program so planned will make of each individual a Well-integrated person who will give val- uable service to our democratic society. . Cloy S. Hobson

41.71. sawd-.- Principal Adolph Unruh . . . Vice Principal Sid Moore Pilot Unruh and Co-pilot Moore began their long-distance mission rounding up Gremlins and charting their courses. When an instructor reports: Atten- tion - Gus, the Gremlin, A. W. O. L. , Co-pilot Moore sees that he gets back on the beam and stays there! A report is flashed: Unidentified Grem- lin flying around at P. H. S. Looks like it will be a forced landing. But Pilot Unruh is on the job and lands the new Gremlin safely on the field and supplies him with the necessary charts and equip- ment to enable him to continue his work. FromPilotUnruh's andCo-PilotMoore's offices come the schedules and courses for routine stunt flights to nearby fields. Although the P. H. S. Gremlins kept these commanders in a tailspin a lot of the time, they were able to make a perfect landing with only a few slipping off the plane. The rest, except for those dis- charged, retired to their barracks after a seemingly thorough mission to wait for reassignment in the fall.
