P. H. S. vs. H. C. H. S. Contest 0235 On the mornmg of February 14th m the year of our Lord nmeteen hundred and eight a party of ladies and gentlemen from the Plamvllle Hugh School ln company wlth the faculty school board and numer ous friends piled out of bed about slx a m and pro ceeded to the Union Pacific depot of this place Here they purchased tlckets for Hlll Clty Kansas nearly all of them gettmg return tickets for they knew that Hill Clty would absorb all thelr money and then lf thev had no tickets they knew they would have to get a tle pass back Hn account of the lnclemency rf the weather the railroad ofiiclals did not know whether to under take to make the run that mormng or not but we finally persuaded them to go and we got started about elght thirty a m amidst the lusty cheermg of P H S and the fare well crles of our frlends who were unable to go We arrived at the town ot Zurich ln due time and the population were astonished and wondered lf our private car had small pox or scarlet fever or both for xt was decorated with red and whlte buntmg After explammg and gnvlng a yell we left the town and proceeded on our way A valentine box was on the tram and everybody recelved numerous pretty U1 tokens of love UQ Fmally we were dumped off at the Hull Clty depot and were requested to ride to town ln the busses We did so as It cost but ten cents per On arrlvlng ln town we went to the Opera House where the basket ball boys were pr ctlsnng for we had agame with Hlll City Hugh School that afternoon About one o cloc we proceedtd to the hotel but owing to ll'lSUfHCl8ht number of waiters lack of prcp aratlons for feeding our bunch or something we did not get fed untll about two We then went to the opera and after sixty minutes of hard playing the at ore was found to be 19 to 20 ln favor of Hull City We were not dlsappolnted however for lt was just luck that gaxe them the uctory After the game the hall was decorated for the great literary contest th tt was to take place that night After supper the two Hlgh Schools again as semlvled and beg ill yelling Hlll Lltv had some fine lx U yells made over and on account of overwhelm mg numbers we were beaten In yelling but not ln the cr ntcst tor on counting the points ll was found that we had 3.9 m qorltv Atter the contest It was found that Hull Cnty was three banners to the goof as well as three le tons wr ich they had so kllll'llX handed to u ID the fore part ot thc t.VCf'llllg The schools becamc rccontlled how ever and played games until about 2 a m The Plamvllle Hugh School then went to their car to sleep to home and to bed X PIIQPIIIIBQO 1 Once upon a tlme P H S took a Journey into a far country yea even unto Hlll Clty 2 Now this place was so named be ause It sat on an exceedingly hugh hlll 3 However this cxty IS not a llglt to the country round about for its cltlzens have covered thelr gas lights with a basket 4 It happened that while P H S sojourned ln that wicked clty a great assemblage of the people was held 5 And much speaking was heard and P H S did speak more wisdom than Hlll Cnty 6 In consequence whereof P H S was ex alted and Hlll Clty was abased 7 For the Judges were men great ln wisdom and Justice 8 Nevertheless there were those of Hlll Clty who sought to do P H S great harm 9 And some of these wlcked men were seen and some unseen ln thelr deeds of darkness 10 And as P H S was enjoylng the fruits of her labors she fell among thieves who stripped her of her valuables 11 Therefore the sons and daughters of P H S were left dlsconsolate and sought comfort from thelr elders terests of P H S dear to her heart brought the re port of the robbery unto the chlef of that clty a man great ln authority keeper ot the keys of the clty and rulcr of the country round about 13 He being a man kmd toward lhe oppressed promised to avenge for 14 Then P H S shook the dust of Hlll City off her feet and came back home rejoicing lo And there was much Joy in Plamvllle at her return nd she wa feasted on the tatted calf lb And sm e everythmg works for the good of them that deserve credit P H S was later blessed by being returned her valuables 14 Then tht re was another Jubllee ln which H1llCntx was given a hlgher sea' and was much pr used .
