Eager to know what the future holds for our class we begged the use of that weird, secret machine, the Space-O-Graph. While Super-Physicist manipulates many strange knobs and switches, sparks fiy from the machine, cutting the murky gloom of the gym where is assembled the expectant Class of '44. As Super-Physicist steps back from the shining Space-O-Graph a violent explosion takes place and the class is transported bodily to Hollywood. Whom do we meet but Theron Stewart, top journalist for the Hollywood GHZCUC Of 1953, who is covering the Grand opening of Larry Roper's Mudle Pudle Papa's Night Club on Bloom Boulevard. Hearing a sour note from the orchestra we notice that Marshall Abell, well known band leader, and his sensational 'Nutmeg Nuts are furnishing the music. At a near-by table sits Frank Brooks, distinguished corporation lawyer for Blotz, Hotz, and Scots, dealers in Chewey Candy. Across from him sits that dynamic screen actress, Thelma Bloom, who has just finished her latest picture Little Prairie Flower. Now we are walking up Hobokan Avenue, where we notice a sign, Philip Loomis, Pediatrician. His wife, Jean Slater is acting as receptionist in his ofhce. Going on we are invited in to a party thrown by Leo Cunningham, a salesman of men's clothes. Here we meet many of our former classmates. The eccentric George Deegan, President of the new Hollywood Model Agency with a group of blondes around him. They are Ernestine Bozak, Eva Roth, and Eleanor Lepore, fam- ous models from his agency. Entertainment is provided by Nora Barboza accom- panied by Bob Hummel at the piano. Off in the corner we find William Lichtenfels, assistant to the ship's cook on the U. S. S. Clem-Ka-Diddle Hopper the latest de- stroyer designed by Jack Bronkie and built by Freeman Collela's, Unamit-Webildit Construction Company. It is interesting to note that jimmy Michaud supervised the painting of the ship, and George Low is pilot of the reconnaissance plane. Lor- raine Abel, a columnist interested in Indian Affairs is here and reported that Carolyn Blauvelt, assisted by Henry Bannell, is performing miracles with her missionary work. DoctorBarbara Maerz and her partner, Virginia Butler, are looking after the health of Carolyn's protegees. Leaving the party, feeling better than when we went in, we meet those dashing men about town,.Art Lyon and Anthony Richards accompanid by their companions, Frances Kata and Bernice Dorazio. Continuing our journey we encounter Don Lack- ey, the singing milkman. Awaking the next morning, slightly the worse for our experience, we ring for the bellboy. Looking through half closed eyes we notice Chic Oakley bringing the morning paper. Glancing through the society pages we find among the newly weds Doris Carroll, Irene Ritchie, Mary Caiaze, Edie Piers, and Bob Phelps. Turning the pages an ad catches our eye, Louise Richards and Margaret Sharr, School for Private Secretaries. Downstairs we pay our bill to Mike Reale, manager of the Hotsy-Totsy 5 yr 22 S-'feilcxi A Aix JT Hotel. Across the street is a candy store run by Hilda Marchetti assisted by Emogene Judd. Next door we find Paul Nelson's Sport Center, where Robert Gallagher the new Olympic champion diver is practicing. News Flashm-Bob Thomas sets new record for the twenty mile run! Marion Treadwell, dress designer accompanied by her secretary Jeanne Matson has just finished an ultra-modern creation, displayed in Doris 'Cain's Exclusive Dress Shoppe. Eleanor Packer's Hat Shoppe has just opened with all of the latest head- gear modeled by Jean' Radun. Strolling along the waterfront we recognize Jimmie Robertson and Ormond Vogt swabbing decks in The Hollywood Canteen while Charlotte Turner, the pro- prietor, swooningly wrings out the mop. Practicing in a corner with Betty Dulac's All Girl Orchestra, is Don Demarest, our new Frank Sinatra. Among the members of the orchestra we notice Barbara Benson on the trumpet. Doris Benson on the tenor sax, and Elizabeth Main beating it out on the drum. Specialties are Roberta Fabrizio, tap dancer, and Eric Lundquist, master comedian. The Rhythm Sisters, Virginia Corlette and Ellen West give out solidly with their unique harmonies. Continuing our journey down Hollywood Boulevard we run into Jean Cotton, who is out gathering information for her next book. With her is her private secre- tary,Beverly Coons. Strolling on we see Jean Allan and Shirley Warren, private tary, Beverly Coons. Strolling on we see Jean Allan andShirley Werren, private tutors to rising young stars. Dropping in at a studio we grin at the funny antics of John Lamb, conductor of the Hollywood Philharmonic. In the control room is Elizabth Knapp and Evangeline Hurley, both excellent radio technicians. In another room is Elizabeth Kloss and Fred Hull giving a television skit, Wife Knows All, sponsored by the Irene Morin Company, dealers in heavy scented O So Sweet Per- fumes. The announcer, to our surprise, is that fluent speaker Wahneta Holden. Speaking of announcers, in an anteroom, waiting for her turn to ring the bell is Mary Maiellaro who tells the time every ten minutes. Listening to a radio in the stu- dio we hear that Josephine Lippia has just finished a transoceanic airplane flight from Los Angeles to Pee-Kee-Boo, China. Francis Johnson, commentator for the Singing Bird Seed Company is doing a fine job at reporting the news. Sitting next to him is the weather forecaster, Eleanor Goodwin. Asking her about some of our former classmates we rind that Walt Majsak is an athletic coach at Notre Dame and Doris Papenfoth is doing splendid work as a social worker in Chicago. Dot Stamatis has 'the lead in Grace Parmelee's musical comedy which has been on Broadway for a record run of three hundred weeks. Marion Sullivan is starring in 'Threads and Latches in the Steinway Theater. We hear that Gloria Stanley is happily married to a millionaire and Ellen Robinson has been touring the world with Annelies Heyne. Lois Hemingway and Angelina Camerota are writing music that the whole country is singing and Burton Johnson, about to make a solo flight in a balloon, expects to explore the Ionisphere. A bright Hash-and the Class of H44 finds itself once more in the gym at P. H. S. The group is a bit dazed but happy to know the future is bright for each and all. 23 Class History On a lovely fall day in September 1940, the halls of Plainville High fairly rang with the echos of strange, new feet. We, the Class of 44 had arrived. Since we were an ambitious little group we got right down to the business of electing our class officers: Don French, Bob Phelps, Ursula Minor, and Phil Loomis. Soon came the Senior-Freshman Reception, when kindly advice was dished out along with the ice cream and cookies. Six report cards, class pins and graduation under the tutelage of Miss McGrail and bright plans for the future. Smoothly we sailed into our Sophomore year. Ut rained that day.j With all the dignity of upper- classmen we picked our leaders: Bob Phelps, Phil Loomis, Ursula Minor, and jean Slater. Mrs. Smith finally consented to be our class adviser and with her help the high spot of our activities during the year was a dance given by the class in April. Firmly established in good old Plainville High, we calmly awaited the coming two years. As Juniors, we were reaching the pinnacle of our high school career and proving our ability to handle many responsibilities. At the beginning of the year we chose as our executives: Mike Reale, john Lamb, Jean Slater, and Doris Carroll. In Oc- tober the girls entertained their Freshman sisters at a reception. Soon after this, we had our unfor- getable Hobo Dance. Under the competent guidance of Miss Zelda Lurie, our class adviser, the class rings were ordered and the junior Prom, our greatest event thus far, was soon under way. On May 7th, we tripped the light fantastic to the music of the Revelers' Orchestra at a Fiesta whose decorations and romantic atmosphere established our Prom as one of the most successful in the history of P. H. S. As Seniors the boys showed their enthusiasm by building a double stone fireplace on the school grounds where they entertained the girls and faculty at a hot dog roast. Soon committees for the Class Book, Class Night, and the Senior Ball were chosen, and work started immediately. In November, the Seniors, dressed in Sunday best, claimed one of their privileges, that of teaching school for a day. The class sponsored a Valentine Dance February 12th. As we have dabbled in much and accomplished not a little, this, too, proved to be a huge success. Before the end of the year we hope to main- tain our well-established reputation by having a spaghetti supper and a Glenn Miller dance and one more dog roast. At present the class is anticipating a Senior Week that will include Senior Ball, Bacca- laureate Service, Class Night and Graduation. As we stand at the end of our high school career, we realize with startling clarity the fact that our country's en- trance into the Second World War during our Soph- omore year will have a great effect on our lives. Several of the fellows from our class have left for the service, many more will follow. Nevertheless, even though many of our plans must be changed and the realization of our ambitions will be delayed we will ever go forward for SUCCESS BE OUR DESTINYF ...ae aff rf K4 Q 'ii' 'V' I, 7-F , 'ww' :7 0,15- l 1 i' ,-gills.ii'-ff:TfiS3:I-, ' ---:H 'b?'Li9'.F'5i?i:fi3-fZif1 ' ' .. 555iff1?T': ' Q i f K v ,ff ,Jef ff Q X, .
