1 Am an American I am an American. I am youthful. My hands are strong and calloused. My shoulders are broad and firm and able to handle heavy loads. My feet are firmly planted in the soil from whence my strength comes. But my heart is burdened and sad from my father’s generation’s legacy. Apathy. Deterioration. Inflation. Unemployment. Taxes. A society that doesn’t or can’t work. A populace that is indifferent. Leaders that don’t lead. Why? I am an American. I love my country. The Constitution, the Declaration of Independence, Old Glory, The Star Spangled Banner, and the bald eagle are not just symbols of any nation, but of my nation. They are my life blood, my soul, my inspiration. They are more of me than I can ever know or ever admit. The Statue of Liberty is more than a statue. It is the guarantee that freedom and liberty do still exist in a cold and bleak world. And freedom are more than mere words. They are alive and a testimony that any man can reach his potential. I am an American. I love my country from sea to shining sea, from the Great Lakes to the Gulf of Mexico. I love her institutions and sym- bols. I believe that she is the greatest nation.
