Kanit has made his home this year with the Marshall Pharr family: (Seated) Terri, Mrs. Pharr, Kanit, Mr. Pharr and Mark. (Kneeling) Denise and Angela. “It’s a different way of life” During Student Council Installation, Mark Mangum concentrates on his speech while Kanit listens to Kurt Caddell explain some of the “American ways.’ Kanit Smutrat, this year’s AFS student, came from Rayong, Thai- land. Describing Americans as “sometimes different,” Kanit emphasized that he is very fond of the country. He especially mentioned the warm- heartedness of the United States, and stressed “I hope to return some day.” In the meantime, Kanit will carry home with him memories of his favorite food, pizza, and his unforgettable ping pong games! “Look out! Here it comes!” Kanit plays one of his favorite hobbies—ping pong. 29

Yearbook staff finds ‘a time for time out” The photographic “line-up” for the yearbook includes Don Dickson (head photographer), Bobby Hall, and Brink Voelker. Seated is sponsor Mrs. Amelia Bishop. It all started in August, when yearbook sales are tradi- tionally a part of registration ... Then came September and October, and the deluge of 1500 student pictures (in triplicate, of course) to be identified and labelled .. . ... And November and December, with pictures, lay- outs, cutlines, copy blocks, and the first deadline. . . . And January, and deadlines . . . . . . And February, and deadlines . . . And surprise! The yearbook comes out in August. “Just a little something we got together, of course.” Then it’s August again. 30
