Bonfire begins PHS homecoming Practice pays off as the PHS Marching Band forms the name “Cox” perfectly, honoring Queen Cheryl at halftime. “We gather together. ...” PHS’ers of these and other days converged on the campus Sept. 28-29 for the annual homecoming events. With school dismissed at 3 p.m. for gathering firewood, students began to prepare for the Friday night bonfire. Varsity cheerleaders led the pep rally portion of the evening, along with spirited music provided by the PHS band. Saturday’s events in Bulldog Stadium began with a Royal Scarlet performance to the tune of “Tie a Yellow Ribbon ’Round the Old Oak Tree.” The Dogs turned back Amarillo 21-6 in the gridiron classic. Queen Cheryl Cox and Princess Lori Young were honored at halftime by the PHS Band, the Student Council, and the Speech Department. A Student Council-sponsored dance with “Rat Madness” closed out homecoming 73. Doug Berry “tells it like it is” as several hundred PHS’ers gather at the homecoming bonfire.
