With the opening of the new lfstgicado jr. High, we lost the freshman class, und its .1 result diminished in enrollment from all time high last year to just under 800 on com- pletion of registration in September. The days were long and warm, and it was a chore to get down to the business of studying, Besides, the other things were more interesting. Study hall was a place to catch that routine nap in the afternoon, The teachers though had other ideasg they thought school was the place to come to study. XYfhat we really came for was extracurricular. Seniors got their rings and ordered invitations, Choir soon began work on the operetta, and if naturally we tolerated no small amount ot' class work. At any rate, these and other activities set the pace for a busy and wonderful year. 5 The halls are deserted until 8:30 each morn. Playing non-conference the first three games, the Bulldogs dropped the first one to the Littlefield Wfildcats, but sprang back to take the next two from Brownfield and Hereford. Going into conference play on Oct. 10th, the local team realized an ambition that had remained out of reach since 1941--BEATING THE AMARILLO SANDIES. Following the Sandy game, Borger soundly trounced the Dogs, and a losing streak was on. The boys lost the next three games to the two Lubbock clubs, and Palo Duro. H. S. Band under the direction of R, C. QChiefj Davidson came to the front again as one of the outstanding Bands on the High Plains. The interest shown in music by Plainview students is attested by the seventy-five current members of the band, those who pursue musical interests after graduation, and the enviable reputation that has accrued Chief Davidson in musical realms. Upon investigation we find many band directors on the Plains Qamong them Dr. Ted Crager of West Texas State, and Bill Wootls of Seagravesj who are former students of Chief. This year's band had a tradition to upholdgand uphold they did! Marching, performing and playing for athletic events, presentation of concerts, performance for civic and community activities, as usual kept band members rushing.
