After registration September 1 and 2, PHS soon settled down to the routine of the normal school day. A W li You Wan Pam Poole gives the devotional. Life in Plainview High begins around 8:00 A.M. as students convene in groups in the cafeteria to await the 8:30 bell. Here they may have breakfast of milk, orange juice, and rolls and visit with friends. By 8:30 most of the buses have unloaded, and the students start drifting into first period classes. 1:17456 With the morning devotional and openinff exercises our 3llX routine is underway Alter second pt rlod which ends at 10 40 stu dents go to advisory. pep rallies. or assembly On Wednesday C uv meetings are held during this period. During football season, every Friday is pep rally day, and students spend the time boosting the Bulldog spirit. Assemblies of various types are held on the average of once a week. Sometimes, the program is edu- cational, others are entertaining only. Movies are sponsored from time to time for the stu- dents. During the noon hour, hun- gry students await their turn in the cafeteria. Lunch hour for the approximate 1000 PHS students is divided into two periods, one beginning at 12:05 and the one at 12:30. Students gather in the morn- ings to await the 8:30 bell. l I I Mattie Bannister chats, Wildean listens. Some are studying. .lane White, Annie Sue James, and Miss Holley are on hand to aid. Nancy Robinson checks out books. The library is a favorite meet- ing place for many of the students to read for pleasure as well as to do research work for their classes. A group of girls is al- ways on hand to see that stu- dents are aided. Miss Holley is there to aid the students in every way possible. Study hall is another part of the average student's day. Normal load for students is four courses, P.E. and study hall. 74e Daw ,jk Qi! :,,qM Q 4 if i . Students may have lunch or they may eat at the snack har operated in connection with the cafeteria. Through all the days of autumn, winter, and spring, students of PHS follow a routine, but always there is something new, something different to keep them busy and happy . . . and soon the year is gone. nano-xZZewz After the lunch hour, all students are- back in classes tthey are part of the daily schedule, but students prefer to forget sometimesl until 3:45 when the rush is on. Queen Barbara was attended by a royal court of eighty-four Lords and Ladies from the Realm of the Senior Class of Plain- view High School. A fanfare of trumpets by four court heralds in full band uniform opened the program with a traditional splash of sound and color. Master of Ceremonies, Edwin Pierce, President of the Junior Class, announced the arrival of the Queenis court. They appeared in the archways as they were introduced-the Ladies of the Court breathtakingly beautiful in fragile rainbow-hued dresses fashioned of velveteen, taffeta, and satin, the Lords gallant and dashing in black tuxedos- and moved to the sides to. form a bright background of royal color to receive Queen Barbara. Following their presentation Student Council President Bobby Jack Frye and Garland Wolfington, President of the Senior Class were presented. Then, preceding the arrival of the Queen, came Princess Donna Hanks, escorted by Eugene Barton. Another fanfare and the slow royal procession began with the Queen regal in white satin, carrying the huge bouquet of red roses and attended by four pages. Upon Queen Barbara's arrival, she knelt and was crowned by Bobby Jack Frye and Garland Wolfington presented her with the scepter, symbol of her position and authority. After the Queen's proclamation, Fay Elliff entertained the Court with piano selections. Barbara was elected Queen by popular vote of the Student Body. Nineteen nominees were entered in the race. In the run- off election Barbara defeated Donna Hanks, who was named Princess of Plainview High. Approximately one hundred and twenty seniors participated in the program which has come to be one of the highlights of the school year. .QA 5-W v l -. ,M 'GPI' , f ,h , K.
