Aving er I am very happy to have this opportunity to express my thanks and appreciation to the student body of Plainview High School for the courteous co-operation given me this year. Your fine spirit and attitude have made this school year very pleasant and profitable for all of us. I wish to commend the sponsors and staff of this annual for their work in producing this excellent yearbook, which I am sure you will enjoy for man years, To the graduating seniors, I wish to extend my hearty congratulations. Sincerely yours, 14f-!f- ' W. H. Avinger Superintendent of Schools Q PRINCIPAL R . W . Davidson Dear Friends: Congratulations to the sponsors and all the editors of the 1950 Plain View. It takes a lot of work to produce a fine book like this one. I know you are repaid for all the extra work you have done and all the times you had to beg some- one to have a picture made or write a line. Probably the best things of life are done on over-time without pay. I am deeply grateful for pupils and teachers who do things. Yours sincerely, f I Luz-L W l l N, 53,7 YE R?'.iYELggANOR S. 'Madam, I am worried about the class of 1950. What do you forsee in your crystal ball', said Jane. 'I see many things for your graduating class', replied Madam Swami. 'I see that Kenneth Gilbert, along with Billy Dewberry and Robert Cobb, will start a trip to the mooni in their Supersonic Space Ship. Acting as pilot of the ship is Glenn Yates with Philip Taylor as co-pilot. Among the passengers are the newly-weds, Rowena and Dave Harris, who are on their honeymoon. Jack. Harris is going along to see if the land up there is any better for farming, and Elmer Stevens hopes tot found the first University of the Moon. Burke Beall plans to open 'The Bouncing Beauties of Beall' night, club with Betty Sewell, Frances Stevens, Betty Thurman, Billy Sue Utley, and Martha Wattenbarger asl 'The Bouncing Beauties'. Ona Bell True, Alma Payne, and Jeannine Green will be cigarette girls. Earlene .Tones will start immediately campaigning for the position of first Senator for the Moon. June' Patterson and BobbyMangum are the air hostesses on the ship and Jack Crowther is their pet air sick- ness patient.' 'As the crystal ball clears I see a large tent, a sea of a million faces, and I hear the resonant, dramatic voice of Eldon Smith crying, calling ----- 'Popcorn, Peanuts, Cold Drinks'. He is selling these items in Charles Durning's circus, 'The Durning Daring Feats of Death'. Herbert Powell is start- ling everyone with his act of juggling snakes, while Evelyn Dean has folks gasping for breath with her thrilling act on the tight rope. Marjorie Follis, Patsy Garner, and Shirley Estes send chills up people's spines as they defy death in the top of the tent. Hiram Reed and Garland Reese convulse the people with their clown stunts. lla Fae Hopkins and Leta Himes have everyone staring with their feats of bareback riding, and Garland Smith astonishes everyone as he drives his trusty Ford through flaming hoops.' 'I see Bob Hilburn as Editor of the New York Times at the young age of 30. His three private sec- retaries are Wanda Harris, .Tackie Cline, and Jane Brink. His typists include Patti Abernathy,Elinor Ferrell, and Frances Lovell. The copywriters are Ruby Thurman, Tommie Webb, and Omega Will- iamson. Slaving in the heated atrriosphere of the printing room are Ralph May, Donald Manning, Terry Beckham, J'.T. Campbell, and Marvin Dean.' 'Yes, yes, go ahead', gasps Jane at this point. 'Well, I can see Martha Dobson as the first woman President of the United States-she finally admitted she was 35-and many of her old friends serve under her, Gerald McClure is Vice-President, Susan McCulloch,Secretary of State, and Pat Duzan is the President's sole advisor on all matters.' 'I see in the distance of the crystal ball a small theater. It appears that Eddie Austin is the director of the theater and the cast is really a familiar one--Fred Grig sby is the leading male star, while Pat- ricia Thruston plays the feminine lead. In the supporting cast are Ledale Meeks, Durwood Neie, Sally Moore and Melvin Mills. The back-stage workers are Joyce Schneider, painting sceneryg Lorene I d M lle Smith make up artists' and prompters, Kenneth Tipps and Peggy Webb. Out Sisemore an oze , - , frontBill Woods conducts the orchestra and Jack Howton is a stately usher. The play is the old favor- ite, 'Midwinter Nights Nightmare',' 'There looms in the crystal ball a huge laboratory-in 1 are e g and Earl Webster. They are working out the formulas for a new bomb, the ' 't th world's reatest scientists,Russell Strain, Jeane Browning, powerful 'Super-Bang-Bomb'.' th l b rator I see many others but this is a different type of laboratory. Burnett Young, 'In ano er a o y , Lowell Kingery, and Glen Looney are perfecting a tree which grows both vegetables and fruits. They were going to call it the 'Vega-Fruit Tree', but Bobby Evans thought it ought to grow popcorn and pea- nuts too, so now they will experiment further,' 'Oh! This is most interesting! Leon Macbeth and Ada Miller finally got married and astounded the world with quintuplets, but Dorothy Bryan and Dean Howard surpass them as the proud parents of sex- tuplets. ' 'ln Grand Central Station are many of your old friends--Weldon McBride is the conductor of the California-bound Stream Liner and Alice Schneider, Windell Taylor, Joyce Williamson, Velta Morrow, and Pat Robertson are among his passengers. Norma Haston is at the Information Desk.' 'I see a big ranch house, it's a Dude Ranch, owned by Janice McDonald and Jean McMennamy----- Rozella King and Gloria Kay are among the chief attractions, as cowgirls, of course, and Patricia Hol - sapple and Patsy Ewen make darling waitresses. Luther Gaither, Billy Gillespie, and Robert Findley care for the poor horses after the 'Dudes' get through with them, while Ann Cowan and Kay Clements are the trick lasso artists. Marie English, Jacqueline Crowell, Joan Calvin, Billy Brown, Wayne Chid- dix provide local color as dudes.' 'I see that some of the old students are back at old P.H.S. Kenneth Adams is the principal, Beth Booker has Mrs.Griffin's place, Hazel Martin is the secretary, Glenna Campbell teaches shorthand and typing. Horace Chaney is head coach, Virginia Brady now teaches History, and Rogene Bond teaches English, and Gale Bolles teaches Math, and Betty Bailey is the girls' P.E. teacher.' 'I see also that Connie McPeak and Mildred Mauldin have opened a 'Dainty Dress Shoppe', with Maxine Mickey, Thralene Parsons, Patsy Rackley, Cleatis Roberts, and Faye Sanford as clerks.' 'Now the crystal ball becomes a little dim, but I can see that Kenneth Shields, and Bobby Smith have a 'golf school'. Tommy Schaeffer, Richard Roberson, and Bobby Rogers are the students with James Richards,Charles Morgan, and Ralph Miller as caddies. Zola Nicholson sells candy and cold drinks to all the boys.' 'That is all', sighs Madam Swami. 'But me, me, what about me? ' wails Jane. 'I see ' more.
