Qi UNITED WE. STAND I ' it K... V ' wavixhor In the past two years our school and school life have changed drastically from a happy carefree, frolicking one to a starkly realistic one. Courses have been added in mathe- matics, science, and languages to take care of the armed ser- vice demands. Many extra-curricular activities have been suspended as we have suddenly become aware of the needs of our country. Some high school boys have quit school to go to the army and to work in defense plants. Others have been drafted, and the rest have been awakened sharply to the fact that an educa- tion is all-important. Army, Navy, and Marines tests of all types have been given the students. Some few have passed and have been made officers. The rest, our friends and buddies of yesterday, have become men overnight. Some are heroes, some, battle-scarred, but all are fighting men. Our brothers, our fathers, our sweethearts, and our buddies are living, fighting, and dying for that day when peace will return to the earth, and the peacetime pleasures that they enjoyed when in school can once more be resumed. It is to these, our noble fighting men and to our honored dead, that we, the students of Plainview High, dedicate this yearbook for 1944.

Editorls Note The essential qualities of a true Pan Americanism must be the same as those which constitute a good neighb-org namely, mutual understanding and, through such understand' ing, a sympathetic appreciation of the other's point of view. It is only in this manner that we can hope to build up a system of which confidence, friendship and go-od will are the cornerstones .... Each one of us must grow by an advancement of civilization and social vvellfbeing and not hy the acquisition of terrif tory at the expense of any neighborf' -Franklin Delano Roosevelt lt was this speech by our President that inspired us t-o make the theme of this annual PAN AMERICANISM.
