Neither would exist Without the other, they go hand in hand -one and inseparable. Now that our government is at War, fighting to determine whether or not democratic principles shall be preserved, more and more responsibilities are falling upon the public schools. Men must have sufficient credits to meet officer requirements for the armed services, a large number of stenographers must be turned out, and men and Women must be trained for the inconceiv- able number of War jobs-for engineers, machinists, Welders, electricians, surveyors, and designers must be made available to meet the demand. To achieve success in such a land as ours, there are but two ref quirementsg namely, talent and arnbition. For this is the land where a man is judged on his ability and initiative, rather than on his nationality, religion, or political beliefs. GUY BOUNDS xecu five By selecting subjects which experience has shown to be essential in liteg plus those which are popular with the citizens, the administration has brought about an educational program well to be envied by other schools. A cooperative spirit exists between the Executive Department and the citizens which enables all work to be , V done in the minimum time and with the isultil greatest etiiicency. This spirit is largely . due to the interest taken by the adminis- trators in the citizens' problems. This has brought about results, among the citizens, in scholf arship, leadership, and good citizenship to the highest degree ever obtained in Plainview High School. This year we have reigned in supremacy, we are the last ot our kind. Hencetorth when a student ot P. H, S. graduates, he will have completed twelve grades, whereas we have only completed eleven. Due to the present war conditions we have not ac- complished as much as we might have, but neverf theless, the Class ot '43 has been distinctive. Under the sponsorship ot Miss Minnie Wiles, and largely through the Senior Executive Commitf tee, the Senior class has efficiently carried on the Senior business and looked aiter its interest. At the beginning ol the school year Ioe Bailey McAdams was elected president of the Senior Classg Frank Baker, vice-president, Bruce Rigler, secretary, and Ted Crager, treasurer. We selected Frances Eiring and Dick Armstrong as our two very capable representatives to the Student Council. As our favorites we chose Bobby Harder and Sue Casey, The Senior Play, Spring Fever , under the direction ot Miss Fredice Mires, proved to be one ot the most outstanding accomplishments ot the year. The Class ot '43 has also been Well represented in various organizations such as the football team, the operetta, cheer leaders, Student Council, Hi-Y, Girl Reserve, and National Honor Society. We shall well remember being members of these diff lerent organizations, when in the coming years We shall be represented in every walk of lite. We, the Seniors of '43, are leaving P. H. S. and here, we leave a part ot us. We are depending on you, underclassmen, to carry on. Being the first class under this system, it has naturally lowered the average class roll. However, this fact didn't hinder this enterpris- ing, progressive class, lt went to work fast and got more lettermen on the football team than any other class--five lettermen: Iohnny Mason, Roy Langley, Bobby Winkels, Bay Ward, and Kenneth Patton. These boys were inspired by their fellow classmate, Evelyn Ogden, who was a member of the cheer leaders. The lunior class appparently believes in femi- nine oftice holders, for when they held their class election three girls were chosen: Mildred Britton, president, Lois Beiser, vice-president, and losie Cul- pepper, secretary. lohnny Mason and Winnie Golden were elected favorites, and Bert Roberts and Dorothy True were sent as representatives to the Student Council. lt has been customary every year for the luniors and Seniors to have a picnic and banquet. These annual activities were carried out this year, but were altered to some extent because of war conditions. However, the enjoyment at these affairs was not rationed, The lunior Assembly was given at the close of the year and was, seemingly, enjoyed by all. The lunior class was extremely fortunate to have the new, popular teacher, Miss Elizabeth Keesee, as sponsor. Our days of carrying books for the upper classmen were over, and we could look down on the under classmen. For we proceeded to learn the dignified ways of high school. With Mr. Underwood as our sponsor, the first thing we did was to elect officers. We elected as our president, Bob Horne, vice-president, foe Car- ver, secretary, Ella Mae Everett, and treasurer, Fillmore Hendrix. Bob Gentry and loe Ann Alexf ander were elected to represented the 'lsophs on the Student Council. R- B- UNDERWOOD When the football season opened, we got right SYWWSUT down to work. After all , , , what would our football team be without Bob Horne? Three of the five cheer leaders were Sophomores: lnez Andrews, Betty Io Smith, and Lou Watson. We really broke the record when Bhoda Mulkey, a sophomore, was chosen Football Queen. When favorites for the classes were elected, we chose Io Ann Alexander and Bob l-lorne. ln scholarship the Sophomores have Francis Underwood who is on her way to making the highest average ever attained in P. H. S. For the class as a whole we are particularly noted for our energy and enthusi- asm. lust ask any of the teachers! However, the talented class that we are, we immediately got down to work and organized it. We elected lack Weldon as president, who was later chosen as favorite boy, Davis Horne as vice-president, and Mary Frank Day, who was later chosen as favorite freshman girl, as secretary. We also elected Claude Mae and Aleta McDaniel as Student Council representatives, and soon every- ERNEST BAKER thing was running smoothly. SYUOWSWA We have the distinction of being the largest class in school and the teachers say we are the quietest. We have the ambition and determination to go places, and we intend to make records for future classes to shooft at. We have had this year to break us in and from here on out our class shall be the leader. Nothing can stop us. We have the talent and, under the efficient sponsorship that shall be provided us, we shall make records never before equalled in P. l-l. S. On Octobr 9, Ranger came to Plainview tor a sure Win, according to the press and the Ranger team, only to be defeated 30 to U by our fine spirited team. The boys were at the peak lor the season and they dedicated the game to Corporal E. C. Barry, a former Plainview star.
