As the Seniors exit, and enter a new existence, they will readily realize the richness that was theirs in fellowship. This will be missed but must only instil the desire for many more and better fellowships in years to come. Iuniors imagine envy of the graduates until they become part of the Senior Class. With this, envy fades to ethereal memories of enjoyablelmoments that will soon be taken from them. ' Sophomores see only an educational institution which will hold them within its weighty walls for some time. As this time flits by, their outlook changes with them. They too will reverence these things that are theirs. And Freshmen feel free and frivolous-being unwont to see the seriousness of the situation. However, frivolity will turn to feeling, with the passing of semesters. Yes, all must come and go through this happy humdrum of high school. ROBERT C. DAVIDSON, Director Mr. Davidson, better known as Chief not only by the band members but by the people of the town, is the ONE director who has put P. H. S. Bands on the Maps! He has been in P. H. S. for seven years and the band has grown larger each year. One day l'Chief made the remark that he learned his notes before he learned his A. B. C's. His parents and other members of the family, in- cluding himself, were all musically talented. We all take our hats off to one swell guy who has done a lot for P. H. It will always exist While Chief Davidson reigns. 'lChief is the periect personification of a likeable, hard-working, unselfish bandmaster. His Band is the model of a high-ranking high school organization that gives forth energy and entertainment, and yet gains profitable instruction. This school would lack something vital should it not have this meritable musical institution. LAAS, SLI PERINTENDENT PLAINVIEW, TEXAS April 22, 1942 To the Senior Class of Nineteen Forty-Two: You are closing an important chapter of your life with this school year. It is a valuable chapter-a chapteriizwhich are written rules and regulations and philosophies that will guide you in ndiggingn for the treasures of life. On the final pages of this chapter I would like for you to add the thought or resolution expressed by a well digger who had been employed to dig a certain well. The contract under which he assumed this job speci- fied that he would receive five dollars a foot provided he would find an ample supply of water. After digging many days through hard clay and stone for seventy feet-far deeper than any well in that neighborhood- he gave up. Another man took the job under the same conditions, went into the abandoned hole, dug only two feet deeper, found an ample supply of water and collected five dollars per foot for the entire depth. Upon hearing this, the first well digger exclaimed, WI will never give up digging again until I have dug two feet deeperln This exclamation contains the thought or resolution I referred to above. He told me that there were several '42 P. H. S. graduates who were now teachers in the high school. Among these was Frances Helm, who was trying to teach dull pupils the fundamentals of the English, and was consequently becoming dull herself. It seems that she lost all interest in life when Mick was hooked by Betty jane Bowman. Vsfick and the former Edith Curry are now at Notre Dame, where he is a well-known football coach. I went up to the physical education class, where Frances Cavett let me in on the latest news and gossip. D, M. Thompson is now director of Thompson's Swingsters and Songsterf' that being none other than Betty Louise Smith. And speaking of songsters. Paul Daniels is now a famous Metropolitan Opera singer: he made his debut singing, You Are My Sunshine. Representing Plainview in the movie world is that devastating Ellen NValker, whose next picture will be Who-Me? Directing the picture is her husband, so I guess that makes him boss at one place, anyway. Also in Hollywood. and breaking many feminine hearts, is that handsome Dave Leatherman, whose marriage to Patricia Bay was on-e of the social events of the year. I left high school and went downtown, where I encountered Patrolman Bobby Greer. who directed me to the BookiefBook Shop. owned and operated by the Misses Emmelyne Williams and Alta Campbell. There I purchased a book written by Eva Lindsey QMartinJ. and entitled How To Get Your Man and Hold Him -a very interesting book. Could it be the voice of experience???? And whom should I meet next but the mayor of this city-Mr. Vv'ayne Bingham! It seems that he won the office by bribing the people into thinking that they wouldn't have to pay taxes if they voted for him. fHow does he do it?j XVell. anyway it is a good idea, isn't it? I went into Frank Kuhn's drug store for a coke. and was waited on by Jodie XVofford. Loyal Gaddis puts on magician shows in the back of the store. I was very glad to see Mrs. Bobby XVinkels. the former Jeanne LaFont. although I was very sorry to hear that she was leaving soon for Reno to get a divorcee. 'She is sueing for nonsupport because Bobby won't buy her a mere 55.000 fur coat. At that moment she was headed for the office of Marcine Keeney. private secretary for james Dement. noted attorney. At the present James is busy defending Melvin Ritter against charges from I..eeRoy Brandes that Melvin has been stealing chickens off LeeRoy's 200facre chicken farm. Our friend, Bruce Hardeman, is a famous artist for the Walt Disney Cartoon Studios. Next I ran into Tommy Connelly. who had jerked a crick in his knee the night before dancing the Umph Tumph with Dorothy Kelly at Bobby Johnson's Streamlined Dine and Dance Clubfi where Bobby also directs the Onskeitskeys. Famous clarinet soloist there is Juanita Davidson. Tommy was on his way to see Dr. Maxey Pinson. although he said that he was afraid that he would be in even worse shape after Maxey got through with him. Maxey seesns tri? have been very successful, considering that he has Flora XVallace for an office nurse- an wi e! I journeyed by the Herald to buy a paper, and whom should I find as editor but ole Frank Baker, ink and all. Upon reading the news briefs. I found that Otis Old was in the hospital, being treated for a fractured skull. fHe won't tell how he got it?????J I also noticed an article announcing the opening of Ye Matrimonial Bureau to be operated by Lucille -Smith and Billie Maxine Byars. Both girls have been married twice. so I guess they decided to give the other ones a chance. fBoth got their husbands through matri- monial bureausj I saw. too. the announcement of the opening of the Booglie XVooglie Pigglie food Store. owned and operated by Alvin Thomas. He plans to specialize in bakery foods. On the social page I found the announcement of the approaching marriage of Miss Carol Shook to Mr, Dawson Malone. The ceremony will be performed by the Reverend Connally Lewellyn, who got his training at XVayland College. jane Vklatson. bridesmaid, is to arrive here soon from New York. where she is the feature writer for i'Look Magazine. I saw a sign which read. Business College. and upon investigating I found that it was owned by my old school chum. Merle Kemper. As I looked over the group of shorthand students there. I noticed my former teacher, james Hodge. I guess he had a case of amnesia and had to start all over. Would I like to be his teacher????? A I was taken out to the airport in a taxi driven by that darefdevil on the ground, Bobby Greer, and was then taken for a spin-and I do mean spin, in his private plane by that dare' devil in the air, Spencer McCartie. I found that the port was owned by W. E. Combs and Dewey Henry. While I was there, a big T. W, A. plane came in, piloted by Joe Bailey E 3 I Q . When I got back to town, I found that a campaign speech was being made by Harold Dean Autrey, who was running for State Senator. Opposing him was Tom Locke. who was also present. The talk was waxing hot, and each was telling the faults of the other, which seemed to be plenty. Harold even had to bring up about Tom being so backwoodsy that I used to come to school bareffooted. Oh, well, we can't always hide our past, can we? ' Before I left Plainview, I wanted to get some souvenirs to take to r r ' -ds at ' . so I visited Mary Io Tatum's Shop For Souvenir Hunters, wht Working in the shop were Georgia Nance and Elizabeth Hill. ability to talk, which makes her a good salesman.l As that seemed to be about all I could find o' retired to my rooms in E. PLAINVIEW HIGH SCHOOL Bearing in mind that All Good Things Must Come to a Close, it suddenly dawns upon us that the never ending current of time sweeps us nearer and nearer to that time when we shall have accomplished our goal and depart from the corridors of dear old Plainview High with a hatful of knowledge and a heart full of memories. This also reminds us that our places as SENIORS will try to be filled by a mass of unruly. selffdominating children called JUNIORS, who will be greatly in need of some advice and any little articles that the experienced and intel- ligent seniors care to leave in their childish care. therefore. we. the seniors of 1942 bequeath to the juniors the following articles in the hope that they will forever be conscious of those progressing. brave souls. who. living or dead. struggled while in P. Leading Lady Chonita was outstandingly played by Iane Watson and after a few practice sessions she and Paul Daniels found that love-making would be no problem. Bruce Hardeman, who was quite accustomed to seeking favor of said leading lady, found that he had serious competition by Paul Daniels in the role of Stefan. Surprising characterization of dignity was shown in both the characters Baron and Baroness. These parts were filled by Dawson Malone and Carol Shook. The comedy element was well presented by Frank Baker and Ioe Hal Wofford. Frank Baker waddled off with the show in an amusing presenta- tion of Butler. Playing a duel role was Io Hal Wofford who as Daya had both dramatic and comic scenes. Ioe Bailey McAdams as the bewhiskered Murdo handled his part as leader of the tribe in remarkable style. The chorus of twenty-five voices supplied musical background with many of Frantz Litz themes. Solos were presented by various members of immediate cast. Dances were led and directed by Betty Smith. A Direction for the entire production was in the hands of Mrs. Hermoine Vaughn.
