Dea71'cat1'0n Dedications have been written, year after year, since the first annual of the Plainview High School was published-dedications to superin- tendent, to principal, to some indi- vidual teacher, perhaps, to the school board - dedication after dedication. But never, so far as we can remem- ber, has an annual been dedicated to that group that makes the annual possible-the student body. l And so this year, the 1940 Plain- view is dedicated, with realization of their loyalty and appreciation of their school spirit, to the student body of Plainview High, those boys and girls about whom the annual is written, the boys and girls for whom the annual is written, the boys and girls who make the annual.

Ealitors 7 Note Sometimes We wonder Why an education is so important, why We go to school year after year- learning Who squared the hypotenuse, Why Rome fell, or why bend the rainbow. We Wonder Why We should Write ad astra per asp-era with a piece of chalk when it would be so much easier to plunk the fellow in front of us on the head With it. All these years that We spend on our educa- tion helps us to find ourselves and what We are best suited for, to understand ourselves and our people, the Way We live and how We should live. The principles of our Democratic government are founded upon the education of our men and Women. Without that education we cannot fully appreciate nor understand the liberty and free- dom which is ours, which enables us to enjoy life to the utmost. With these thoughts in mind we feel that ed- ucation is a Worthy theme for our annual for 1940. We have made it the best We know how and if it pleases you, the student body, then our efforts Will be rewarded.
